Kieran Maguire On Our Finances

Not sure there are too many issues financially, the majority of our current playing squad are out of contract next summer. Only Mumba, Gooch, Hume, Wyke, Power, Grigg and Cattermole are the exceptions. If we are in league one the season after next we could just start again and bring in young league one and two players.
However, football is more than just money. It’s the symbolic nature of us being in this league that’s the problem, and Long term this isn’t about scraping 21st in the championship its about growing the club long term so its in the upper echelons of the championship.

From my understanding is if we didn't sell and Short didn't write off the £152m debt we'd be in trouble. By doing that we had a clean sheet to work from. Unfortunately we still have legacy payments, a high wage bill and a huge drop in revenue. The new owners have managed to get to cost and spending down which is a good thing. On the down side any me we make now will to fund the club. Not necessarily a bad, it really depends on what the club consider success and they feel the club should function. The last £16m parachute payment will cover the on going concerns at the club. Not getting promoted won't be a disaster but it won't be a good thing either. We should be able to function as a League One club but getting rid of the high earners will be priority.

IMO, Donald doesn't have the money to pump into a club the size of ours. He will need to get new money from somewhere. My main concern is we don't have any saleable assets. Norwich only spent £4.9m to get promoted but brought in over £30m in transfers. For me that's the main problem. How will we fund transfers? I think we need a change of philosophy which will invest in youth with players who have a good sell on value. At the moment we don't have any. We need to get away from the tried and tested League One players and look to the League of Ireland, Scotland, non-league and the lower division in Europe.

we sold £19m of playyers in the summer..
the owners have the money to cover the budgetd losses this season and next quite comfortably..but have been clear there is a limit..i think juan would only put more in if we werechampionship..

First neutral view and it doesn’t look good
thats all stuff from the past..and its not just netrals..the owenrs told you we were fucked, people took it to mean the chairman was a frayd..

And that went to cover other debts like outstanding transfers. We were lucky in a sense that we could off load Borini, Kharzi, Lens, McNair, Asoro and Luke Steele. (£1.5m) That went a long way.

We won't get a penny for Cattermole or Oviedo. No one will pay anything over £2m for any of our players.

and norwhichs £20m sale went to the same stuff..

we wont need them to..at league one level £1m gets you a whole team..

But they go promoted which means they will be making money. They have a young squad with plenty of saleable assets. We don't. What we need is a change of philosophy and ethos at the club. My main hope is a complete overhaul of the recruitment and scouting and more money invested into the academy. We need proper people run these areas.
