Portsmouth Supporters... Scum

I didn't see that many Portsmouth fans yesterday, but in a couple of pubs I was in there were a few in and they were all no bother whatsoever.

I think it's just one of those clubs who used to have a reputation and so some of the younger lads think they have something to live up to. And, maybe a few old blokes who can't give it up for whatever reason.

Similar to the likes of Stoke.

I think it's all a bit over the top saying: "Pompey are scum". It's probably more right to say they have a few who like to misbehave, probably more than most clubs in this division, but that would still only be about 5% of their away following?

I was in the North stand and you will have seen the commotion with the flare. At the same time, you may have also have seen a large yellow jacketed policeman go into the Sunderland crowd nearer the corner flag in the North End. If you did that was because of a thrown pound coin which sounded like a banger going off. It whizzed past the woman behind me, hit the seat or the back of a man next to me and dropped behind my seat. The policeman took our complaint and safety concerns seriously and said the cctv would almost be certain to identify the culprit :eek:

To be fair, I'm not one who is arrogant (don't like the whole big club debate, whether your club is bigger or smaller than another doesn't reflect on yourself or your support so I think it's pointless) but I think the cup final comment is fair enough. When teams were coming up from league two last season Sunderland was one of the first names they mentioned in terms of teams they were looking forward to being in the same league as.

Equally for a lot of the players in this league trips to play at a stadium this big will be rare, either in terms of their whole career or for those winding down who have played at a higher level previously it will be few and far between nowadays. Same with the fans, obviously a good few have been to matches at much bigger clubs, or gone to much bigger occasions, but in a normal league campaign many enjoy the prospect of going to Sunderland away. Teams have wanted to come here and get one over a side who, until very recently, were a fairly established top flight side. That's not up our own arse, that's just a fact. It'll no doubt change next season if we're still here because most of the sides will have been here this season so it won't be as big a thing.

And I don't think anyone thinks we have a god given right to be up there because of crowds. Many think top two should have been achievable because we have a large squad, have spent easily the most in the league, broke the league transfer record, and have many players who are internationals (some with European experience), have won promotion from this league (at least once, some more than that), some who have always played at a higher level throughout their career, and have a player like McGeady who is simply a match winner just on his own, and that's in addition to being able to use a good few academy players from a category A academy, ones who if we were still in the prem we'd probably be loaning to the Championship.

Any team who had just fallen two leagues who had this squad and depth, and budget, would be fancying their chances at top two and thinking they should seal it. Not once have I seen anyone saying "with these crowds we should be winning promotion". Sunderland fans more than almost any other set (except maybe the mags) know that big crowds guarantee you absolutely nothing, both the north east clubs have regularly had attendances amongst the biggest in whatever league they've been in, neither have won a f***ing thing since 1973, so don't go thinking we're sitting there expecting our crowds to equate to success

Spot on..I think a lot of people who saw some of their knackers at Wembley and thought they were real Pompey fans where in reality it was a load of scumbags out for a day trip to Wembley. (Btw I was told loads didn't pay for tickets and got free travel) Pompey was always a dodgy place to go to back in the day some of our fans have forgot what it's like..

great reply .. they come on here pretending to be fair minded well balanced in debating the game but always end up showing the real them in petty soundbites .. we know why we are in this league and know we have to fight to get out of it ..
 
I’m sure the majority of Portsmouth fans are decent, however there were plenty of wankers at Wembley. More than I normally encounter from the opposition

I prefer just to chat with oppo fans, yet that was beyond quite a few Pompey fans with sly comments, abuse and even an odd bizarre snarl :lol: Their youth, and too many old enough to know better being wannabe hard men. Strange. Probably not even regular match goers mind.

Wasn’t up for the match yesterday mind, so can’t comment on their regular away support. Although flares and coins have been mentioned
