Ben Stokes new contract

Excellent news, if only FTECB would allow him to play more often.

Well, we don’t pay his wages when he’s on a central contract do we? So, if we assumed he had a central contract the entire time, what is there to even negotiate?

I’m just interested

Aye, I see what you’re getting at now.

As I understand it, a central contract is a fixed fee for the year - which you rightly point out is paid by England - but we’ll still pay him when he plays for us. So I imagine it’s that part that’s been negotiated, the match fees and what have you.

Not sure if signing on fees exist in County Cricket but I bet we’ve had to pay him image rights for using him in advertising and such.

I think Durham's only financial obligation is to pay FTECB compensation when he plays for us. No idea how the image rights portion works.
So we pay them for the privilege of having our player play for us, what was there to negotiate in his new three year contract?

He's not our player, he's contracted to ECB. We refund a portion of the ECB compensation when he's loaned to us.
Negotiations would involve his salary if he loses his ECB contract in the next 3 years.

Pardon my ignorance on such things, but what do we get out of it financially because we rarely see Stokes playing for us these days, I really would appreciate a breakdown of who pays who what (figuratively speaking) .

We got a world class player available to play for us when he cans

I don’t believe we really get anything. I agree that there should be some compensation for producing players for England but you can understand why clubs don’t want to go down that route and go Kolpak instead. Yorkshire have been decimated by England for years now

We pay him and Woody a nominal fee per game they play for us. Both donate it back to the Foundation however.
