SA Tour 2019/20

Cape Town test has started on either 2nd or 3rd January the last four tours out there. I'm hoping to fly out on 31 Dec for ten days. Should cover it.

There a two-test series in Sri Lanka straight after too.

Bastards won't even discuss holidays over that time of year until September

Thought it might be different if I had something massive like this planned rather than stuffing your gob with food and watching shite tv for a week (can probabky tell I f***ing hate Christmas usually)

Back to the drawing board then but there's a chance I could be staring redundancy in the face by time the later Tests come around, if not before.

There'll still be good deals about come September I bet. Could you not still do the fourth test easily anyway? No one is off in mid Jan.

Any ideas when they’re releasing the full schedule, I’m planning on doing Boxing Day and New Years tests, maybe the third as well providing it’s not too long after test 2.

So is the best guess currently:
26/12/19 - 30/12/19 Durban??
02/01/20 - 06/01/20 Cape Town
10/01/20 - 14/01/20?? Port Elizabeth

Cape Town new year (obv), PE the test after is what I've heard on good authority.

Will we see you there?
Me and Mrs El Oso will (barring unforseen circumstances) be there for all 4 Tests.
Hope to arrive in Namibia early November and take it from there.
I was hoping for Joburg and Centurion back to back, as easy to rent somewhere in Sandton for 13 nights Airbnb and then commute to Centurion.
Would be very happy if Boxing Day Test was switched from Durban to PE.
Nice little ground, and nicer and safer city than Durban( or it was when I was there under apartheid).

Would not be quite so happy if it
was
Durban
CT
PE
Then Joburg or Centurion, as it is much more traveling.

Although, to be fair, there are trains from PE to Joburg as well, so not too much hassle, I just liked the idea of being able to stay in one place for a while and get to see 2 matches.

If what North Country Boy says about PE is right, then I would guess those dates are near enough
Or maybe 5 or 6 days between CT and PE and then either Wanderers or Centurion 3 days after that.
I would guess
Third Test 12 or 13th
4th Test start 20th or 21st

I have been checking daily for weeks now about the schedule.
Some of the cricket travel agents said mid February, some said Feb-March.
I think that this year's SA v Pakistan and SL were announced last April 20th. But am not sure, without looking it up again.

As North County Boy says, mid January is definitely a possibility.
Also best time to go on holiday, coldest time of year, nowt happening, something to look forward to after Xmas etc

Doubtful mate as I'm not sure I'd get a pass out for it. But I'll have a try! Sri Lanka a couple of months later is more of a possibility.

One of the lads who's generally in the know said the Boxing Day test was somewhere crap (not Durban) where there's nowt to do. Would that be Centurion?

Doesn't Cape Town have to start on the 3rd to achieve the mandatory 3 day gap?

Hoping I can get to the third still if it's second week in Jan. It's only the festive period they're funny about so anything from the 6th onwards should be alright. Cape Town meant to be the place to go though

From what I've heard PE is class (if I haven't been fed duff info and it is there). An England regular who used to post on here before he passed away said it was crap that Durban always got chosen over it.

I like the band there too.

Guessing Galle might be dropped if it's only two tests. Tbh I preferred Kandy anyway. The backdrop at Galle is nice but the facilities are shit. Kandy was a quirky little place.

I know that in years gone by, there has been only 2 days in between Durban and CT.
Off the top of my head, I think one test started in CT on the 6th, probably not against us.
Haven't been to Centurion, but it seems like the worst, or least lively venue, but very easy to get to from Joburg on the fast and safe Gautrain for around £3 o/w.

I was seeing a SA girl in PE in the 80s, so spent a couple of months there. Saw the rebel Ozzie side led by Kepler Wessels in PE as well as Graham Dilley playing for Natal v (I think ) Eastern Cape.
Nice city. Not like CT like, but prefer it over Durban.

Don't like the thought of
Centurion
CT
PE
And then back to Joburg again.

It's like something the BCCI would organise.
Let's wait and see, hopefully your mate is wrong.
Maybe when it is announced and if the schedule is suitable we'll see you over there.

I heard Boxing Day likely to be at Centurion mate

The ODi / T20 schedule seems worse if it is to be believed.
Got told it was CPT CENT JNB then rinse and Repeat for the T20s!!

It would be idiotic scheduling, as they should just make the ODIs and T20s back to back in CT.
Although, I doubt it would affect many travelling England fans who go mainly for the Tests.

I will probably still be in SA until early February but won't be bothering with any, unless for example, it is Wanderers/Centurion the day before I fly home.

You would think they would book end at CPT to be fair

Anyone got any tips where to stay in CT? I've looked at accommodation around Newlands but it's canny expensive. I've seen there's a train line/station next to the ground so will probably stay further away and get the train to the match each day.
