My Dad always used to tell me what a talent he was. Anyone on here see him in action, either on the pitch or the after dinner circuit?

I wonder what kind career he would have had if it were able to run its natural course? At 28 years old he must have been right at his peak, test average was 46 is not too shabby at all.

Nice article by Matthew Engel below.

Also the one man play that toured cricket pavilions in 2016 - When The Eye Has Gone - was a great insight (!) into his issues. I saw it at Teddington Cricket Club. It really was like a bloke standing in the club house droning on about himself. In a good way

Absolutely tremendous batsmen. Good at Short leg and could bowl. He would have lasted a bit more than 5 minutes.

Different times, there was no overriding pressure to be super fit back in the 1960s/70s.

Jackie Maltby a blast from the past. 18 year old doing national service who was flown over from Germany at weekends to play in the 1st team to the exclusion of big money stars like Fleming, Chisholm at alia.

A bit off topic......Jack’s wife Maureen was Head Teacher at Birtley Lord Lawson and I saw ‘Cannon Ball’ Fleming play against Cornsay Colliery were he had to clean up after the game in a tin bath at the back of the pub.
