Rob Lee on safc support

You were making some good points until this bit like

We have 10 years in the top flight, in which the mags got relegated twice, which is our longest spell since the 50s

Fans of this era don't realise they've had it pretty decent

the lowest we finished for nearly 25 years was 3rd in the championship

I wish people would stop saying we have been shit for ages, we haven't, we are a lot better than we were in the 60s, 70s and 80s.
Most amount of defeats over ten year of all league clubs, aye canny that like .

Who went missing?
We were getting bigger crowds than you while being in a lower league!

Which is why the thread is on YOUR site[/QUOTE
we got more against Northampton in div 3 in 1988 than yous did against Man Utd at home on boxing Day in the top flight the same season so fuck off

Why is Mucky getting involved in that. It’s not really much of a debate in terms of numbers and they basically stole a generation of floating punters in the Keegan years that widened the gap further. I grew up in County Durham and saw it physically happen at my school

Just noticed we averaged more in the Championship than any of your single attendances in the last 42 years.

Might be something to do with capacity ?
Similar to when we were getting higher crowds when the shit tip was being redeveloped

Rob lee broke the speakers on the beam back at roker park when he hit the bar from 40’yards.

Then mickey grey shut him up at thr whole ground.

Aye, I mean your average since 2002 suggests your ground is busting at the seams and it's only your capacity holding you back.

My point was it's daft to isolate stats because I could pull an attendance we got against utter shite that is better than your League Cup semi v Man Utd.

Aey
And we could pull up a crowd of 7986 for a division 1 game at Sid James
Nufc v Norwich

He should have led with that tbf. Having said that, I'm guessing that it was at a point where attendances at clubs across the board are lower than what we are currently seeing nowadays (you'll have to fill me in on the year but I'm guessing late 70s/early 80s) and it would be embarrassing if you were to get anywhere near that low for a first team fixture this season. Say, within 300?

EDIT - Found it, 1977/78.

It was a league game

I know?

Weird that having a low attendance average as paltry as 24K was still the 13th best in the country, mind. Based on last season that would have got you around 25th.
Mind Sima for a B&W you’re very well read. Wall to wall Rothmans round yours?

Michael Gray and Rob Lee have been ‘debating’ the fanbases of both Newcastle United and Sunderland.

The two former players asked who has the best/biggest support.

The schoolyard discussion taking place on Talksport.

Not surprisingly, the pair had differing views

There is no comparison (between Newcastle and Sunderland fanbases).
“None at all.
In my opinion, yes (Newcastle’s is bigger by a ‘country mile’).

Arguing with Newcastle's Rob Lee, Michael Gray claims Sunderland fans could fill 80,000 stadium | NUFC The Mag

The north east only has three big-ish clubs hence the crowds. Equivalent teams elsewhere have more competition.
Newcastle have more peripheral towns around who's inhabitants can't support their local teams so they go watch the barcodes.
Besides who cares what rob lee says? Just another player that didn't win anything in their career

Build a Stadium where both play 80000 both equal squads in the PL Sunderland wins

If only we had recent evidence where you were a league above us and you still couldn't get near our attendances. Twice.

So not sure what 'equal squads' (impossible?) is going to prove.
