Leaving Neverland

One of the mothers saying that she was curious. It feels like she allowed the abuse to happen in exchange for an extravagant paid for lifestyle. Don’t think I can watch any more. Horrible.

Never underestimate a) the humans capacity for evil b) other humans capacity to overlook it even when they know it's wrong.

I always laugh when people say , 'yeah but look how far we've advanced'. Absolute bollocks, it's a wafer thin social veneer that is tossed aside as soon as soon as no one is watching or basic emotions are triggered.

A few other bits I noticed.

In the 80s, unless you were called Noncey McPaedo, parents just seemed to trust other adults.

It was interesting to hear how Jackson justified the behaviour to himself - we're in love, we're meant to be together etc. This is at a time where he's already very odd but it's going to another level.

Like Mrs Exile said, if the family were so convinced of his innocence Neverland would be open to the public at 50 dollars a pop.

Very difficult viewing, watched Part 1 but don't think I'll bother with Part 2 tonight.

While the parents are obviously culpable, they were clearly as groomed and manipulated as the kids. What I can't get my head round is he must have had any number of close staff/associates who would have seen first hand what was going on yet turned a blind eye.

I mentioned that point. If Bruno Mars was mincing around now holding 7 year olds hands and having sleepovers etc thered be fecking chaos now.
Looking back some folk seemed naive/too trusting back then (both in and out of this case).

I thought exactly the same, people happy to turn a blind eye and ride the gravy train.

Both stories followed exactly the same grooming pattern. Jackson charms the mother and speaks to them daily to gain their total trust. He then gets the kid alone for long periods of time and turns them against their parents. Dad gets pushed out and marriage breaks down, Jackson blames the “evil” woman. Kid gets older and a new younger “friend” comes along so they are dropped like a rock.

He certainly knew what he was doing and was well practiced. How anybody can still claim that he was innocent is beyond me.

I think everyone was.

When I was a kid I was warned about "Dirty old men" and "don't take sweets from strangers" but the terms paedophile and child molester never even got a mention. The first time I heard either term I was well into my 20's.

Jacko was seen as a kind of living Peter Pan hanging around with chimps in his own theme park. People saw these kids with him and thought nothing of it.

Just finished the second part, just awful. The parents, apart from the aussie dad, were seduced by the fame and glitter. You've got to feel for these fellas, who's lives have been totally fucked up by Jackson. He was always thought of as being a f***ing weirdo in the 80's, the Bashir documentary confirmed it even more.

It's like the R Kelly stuff, none of this is a surprise, it's just f***ing shocking that they are facilitated at every turn by their hangers on.

I guess theres dangers of living like that but it seemed preferable to how mental folk are now.
Ie once picked up a little girl who’d fell over n our lass said I shouldnt have got involved. Its a sad state when a natural act like that can be viewed otherwise.

Me too. Saw a bairn come flying off her bike once, reet ower the handlebars. I picked her up and dusted her off, as you do, she was squaling and too shaken to carry her bike, so I walked her the 100 yards home and knocked on her door. The mar answered, saw the bairn crying, looked at me with a look of horror, then asked the bairn "what happened!" while giving me funny looks. I fkn shat meself. Seconds later the door slammed in my face. Nee thank you or nowt.

If it happened again I'd definitely hesitate before helping. I'd make sure there were witnesses about before even laying a hand on the bairn. It's sad. Adults are meant to protect kids but you're scared to go near them these days man.

Standing in the park watching my bairns playing a few years ago and a mother comes over.. "Are you waiting for someone?". I knew what she was doing.

at least it'd stop people buying his music

Were the events described by both kids happening at the same period?
So was he running the pair of them at the same time just carefully keeping them apart, or did one follow the other? I couldn’t get that clear from the documentary.

Like the lad above says, their stories are almost identical. As they unfolded it made me think the lads were both most probably gay which fuelled their attraction to Jacko but at the end you find they both got married (to a pair of WADs!). The bewers must have been horrified to learn the history of their respective spouses.

Or payed off enough and signed contracts etc to never say anything.
