1. Fans on Saturday having a fun time on the piss day and night down London.
2. Waking in the morning (somewhere), donning the colours and heading off to Wembley to soak in the atmosphere.
3. Our team walking out at Wembley and playing in front of packed house
4.Fans singing their hearts out during the game cheering their team on

Yeah, feeling they would love all of the 4 above as well.......and thats just a short list.

Fuck em ;)

I am sorry if I got that wrong. I was quoting a figure I saw earlier this season. I think you got a 48000 gate on Boxing day plus another 40000+ gate since then, both phenomenal gates for this level, so that will obviously have put the average up. When you see gates like that it is a wonder that clubs such as Accrington Stanley compete at the same level, and more than hold their own. We played Rochdale in an evening game and they had 69 visiting supporters which some people found derisory. I personally see them as the magnificent 69, real supporters. Clubs such as Rochdale & Bury are right on the doorstep of Manchester United & City so it must be very difficult for them to survive. Sunderland is a bit bigger city than Portsmouth but the catchment area down here is quite large. The nearest club to Pompey is Southampton to the West (about 15 miles down the road) and Brighton to the East (50 miles away). The border lines of the surrounding area are very defined though to which team you would support. The rivalry between Portsmouth and Southampton is very deep seated and goes beyond football. I know there are rivalries all round the country with yours being Newcastle and local derbies are very intense but I bet there are not many more bitter than the Pompey v Southampton games. I am prattling now aren't I so I better go.

Gates have nowt to do with how well the team play melon head otherwise we both would be premier top 7 every year

Pompey fan here. To be quite honest getting to the final has not really stirred too much excitement down here. Most of us just see it as a day out at Wembley and would not be overly concerned if we lost, we would rather win of course. We wanted Sunderland in the final because your lot will bring a fantastic crowd down and we are, probably, the only two clubs in this league that would fill Wembley up. Our recent run of bad form is really down to the fact that we weren't really that good in the first place. We were the top of the league but not looking like the top of the league team. I think we are coming out of that run now (hopefully) but most of us think it will be a Play Off place at best. I agree that the sending off of your player at Fratton did swing the game in our favour because up to then it could have gone either way. A lot of you seem to think we should have an inferior complex when we meet you but that will not be the case. Our history and honours does compare to your club. There is no doubting that your support has been brilliant this season and our average gate is only 18300 to your 27500. The problem for us is that nearly every game is sold out because the home end only accommodates 17000. When the away team brings more than 800 that end of the ground can not be used by the home support. We need a bigger ground because whatever league we are in we will draw 18000 crowds but they are working towards that. One thing I can predict is that both sets of fans will create a brilliant atmosphere and the one thing we won't lose is the vocal backing we will give our team. Any way I hope all you boys and girls enjoy your day out and no matter what team we support everyone gets home safely.
Fuck off Mag ;):)

I never suggested that gates have anything to do with where a club is in the league or what league they are in. Is 'melon head' a derogatory term or is it a friendly matey type of term?

Over 70% jealous  that article is pathetic and sums the ***** up

It's just so grindingly predictable and poorly written, out of sympathy I should really send them someone better ..... would only take me a few minutes.

Let's be honest they've been presented with a tap in, for some real piss taking, but have fallen on their arse and skied it over the bar.

They're absolutely f***ing useless

That's not very nice is it? Where in my drivel do you get the suspicion that I am a Newcastle supporter?

OK, I'll play your game.

Here's an easy question to get you started, you obviously know your way around football forums ...

... which Portsmouth forum do you use and what's your username.
