Did you get it back?

Aye, after 2 years, but she dug her heels in. She said it was a ‘Gift’. Daft bint!

Surely that can't be right?

Why not buy another couple and make yourself £25k profit

Nah it’s true, you get a bit more for your buck over there. I didn’t know how much it might be worth at the time, the only reason I got it valued was because her Dad got her Mam a new one for their 30th wedding anniversary for £7,000 and it was worth just over £30,000. If I had the money, I would’ve got another one.

Is the teardrop symbolic of your relationship?

That is nice mind but as with all jewellery, it’s very personal to look and taste.

Ha ha.....I bought that diamond in a second hand necklace, we had it removed and the ring made.

Get it from Abu Dhabi or somewhere like that. Got my exes from there for £2,500 with the certificate. Got it valued over here and it was worth £15,000 over here.

Same here, diamonds are about 1/4 -1/2 of the UK price in Kuwait.

Learn about the 4 c's of diamonds.

Once you've done that, you'll quickly see that highstreet prices are extortion in the main part.

I recommend this place:
Wedding Rings Direct - Handcrafted in our UK Workshop

Example:
Platinum Band (I used to recommend Palladium as a great way to save money, but its as expensive as Platinum now, just as I said it would be one day)
Brilliant Cut
0.5 Carat
SI1 Clarity
H Colour

Under £1,300
(Drop to SI2 and pay just over a grand)

This.

I got our lasses (no) engagement ring from here and they were 1st class to deal with. Excellent quality and service. Got the ring valued for insurance purposes as got it added to our home insurance and it was valued by an independent jeweler at twice the price I paid for it. We used them again for our wedding rings and again they were excellent.

Because "valuations" from a jewelry shop have nothing at all to do with the price you could get if you wanted to sell your ring.

Erm.

Did the same - Wedding rings, and then an eternity ring too.

Really nice people, good service.

Looking at probably popping the question within the next year or so and looking to get some ideas on ring companies etc, customisable ones.

Anyone had any dealings that can give me some advice?

Mate of mine did the round in all the shops in Newcastle. After deciding to more research he found that in his price bracket he could travel down to London and get something 10x the quality and still be quids in.

Don't go mad with it, think about the other things as a newly-wed couple you'll need to spend your money on, use a family ring if you have one (it was good enough for William and Kate). Expensive jewellery can wait till later in life. I speak as a woman who adores fine jewellery, but is well aware that practically everything else in life is more important.

Lived there for 4 years. Had loads of stuff made and now insurance valuations are stupidly high - cost to replace - it is cheaper to buy and have made over there.

Agree, be proportionate. Isn’t there a rule about X weeks / months salary?
