SOL era home crowd...

...is a massive factor in why we will never kick on.
I've been to Roker and watched us get beat of Notts County. Our fans sang sack the board. The same board within 4 years delivered premier league football and the stadium.

We had sub 15000 crowds in the 72/73 season before the cup run... and I'm being kind. Roker never saw us kick to fuck all, and I loved the place.

...is a massive factor in why we will never kick on.

It's been evident since the first home game where things didn't go out way. Norwich game in 1997, berating the team even though they were creating bucket loads of chances, because we weren't winning. A few weeks later Quinn was being stretchered off to a huge cheer. You're not allowed to mention these things now because they offend the ego of the "best support in the world" brigade.

We need to stick with the team through adversity, which seems to be beyond our home crowd. The pressure on the team first half was massive and palpable from 4,000 miles away. Groans, boos, sarcastic cheers. Unbelievable.

Results are disappointing, no question. The home crowd however have to take a look at themselves and their role in making the SOL a difficult place to play for the home team.

Tin hat off because it's true even though people will kick off. 20 years of getting on our own players backs is evidence enough, away team love coming here and have for years.

Ye there can be an awful lot of negativity but when Gooch tonight simply knocked the ball past the full back he had 30,000 people gunning him on all the way, and that sums Sunderland fans up. Doesn't take much to get this crowd behind you.

It doesn't stop you having an opinion. That's all.

You contribute nothing to the atmosphere or mood.

Maybe starting a conversation on one of our most prominent online platforms about the fact our home support holds the team back might have an impact on how come conduct themselves?

Unlikely, but worth typing a few words out. Seems to have upset a few mind, which suggests it's touched a nerve.

That's a fair point....but it's just as quick to go the other way. How we react in adversity is what will make a difference.

Not in any way, shape or form, no. As I said, you contribute nothing to it so are entitled to your opinion but it's as valid as mine on Donald Trump's plan to build a wall.

Then why are we getting similar results away from home?
Too simplistic a view that marra, isn't it? Home advantage should see us confident and on the front foot, dominating and pressuring teams but we aren't. This leaves us needing more from away games than we should, which then amplifies the pressure on those games. If we don't win that, the home game gets harder.... Vicious cycle.

Huge contributor from there is that away crowds just support, support, support. The home crowd is incredibly tetchy which is nearly understandable.

I say "nearly". Its not at all is it? Given what we've gone through as a club? Fans need to wise up.

Keane talked about certain players not being able to deal with out home crowd, even though they were good on paper. Not sure what else people need to hear to accept it is a factor.
We won absolutely shit loads of home games under Keane - even in the PL. 1st season back up, our home wins were in double figures!
We were also immense at home for about 4 years under Reid, where the atmosphere was among the best I've ever heard anywhere.

I agree to certain extent mate but our problem imo of course, is not being streetwise enough for this league, not being clinical enough and putting teams away when on top and allowing sides to deliver balls into the box and inviting mistakes to be made.

Couldn't agree more mate. But we are making the choices to break that

Some won't even admit that the fans have any bearing on the game. They think, players get paid ridiculous wages and should be mentally fit to take all the abuse hurled at them.

WE WERE WINNING.

The noise after we equalised was as loud as its been this season so why didn't we go on to get the winner?
Also, if people had been singing wpuld Wyke have converted that chance? Would Grigg have side-footed his home or would Baldwin (I think it was) have not dived in, in the box?

They're individual erors that the crowd had no bearing on whatsoever.

I disagree with the first part. The pressure put on team by the SOL home crowd has been the topic of too many articles in too many publications for it to be normal.

It's a terrible place to play unless we're winning. Grigg has scored goals for fun but the pressure here seems to be getting to him....cant be a fluke surely.
It doesn't matter where the team is playing if you're not winning the atmosphere will be negative. There have been lots of instances when the Sol has seen electric atmospheres for instance the reidy era, Keanos era and allardyces season. It's got nowt to do with the venue it's the results. Also Roker Park was mainly standing as opposed to the all seater SOL and having experienced both, the atmosphere in an all seater stadium is not as good as in an all standing stadium.

In tonight's game i agree with you. But i would also say if we hadn't scored so soon after their second goal the atmosphere would have turned.
O'Nien stuck one in the back of the net, which could have been the winner had he not slightly been off side, maybe the crowd had an impact on that little passage of play.
You put two things together, one was about how good the crowd are when we are winning plenty of games, the other was how they can be one of the most negative when things don't go our way.
Your questions are rather ridiculous, no one mentioned singing.

Rose tinted bollocks, sorry mate you need to be looking elsewhere for reasons why we are kicking the can down the road currently as a team.
