I'm with your lass on this one if she's fuming at the lack of coin coming your way.
That's bad craic that mind.
At least if she paid you some rent you could put it to one side and help her with a deposit for ANOTHER FLAT or house perhaps!
I’m the one who kicks off about it! She only bought her flat out of spite when me and her fell out over her lack of respect for our rules and complaining she had to pay a few quid a week in rent!

She moved in with the wife’s Mam and dad before she got her flat. It didn’t take long before my father in law told her she had to go as he couldn’t put up with her.

I wanted that as well when I was a youngun... Fortunately my dad convinced me to buy a house and go out every other week, Now at 43 the house is paid off and always has a tenant in it and will help my daughter buy her first home when she is ready.
I say similar to my lad

Definitely not - he doesn't plan to settle down for another 5 years or so

So in that time, he's saving for a house or somewhere for them to go?

Blimey...
Get some coin off her or get her to do some shopping for you all!

I’m not painting a good picture of her like :lol:

Just a great mam and spends her money on the bairn, the bairns father doesn’t pay for him either, I had a good few quid up until about 2 and a half year ago.

Why should I stop him when I really enjoy his company? It's not for me to tell him how to lead his life and nor should you

Sorry mate but a 31 year old should not be living at home. Irregardless of whether you enjoy his company. I don't know what I think is worse, a kid who won't leave or the parent that won't kick them out to force some independence.

Hmm. Spend your coin on dragging her ex to small claims court by his ear

Wouldn’t waste my time on the fucker mate, his best mate doesn’t even bother with him now, initials DG ex forward for us(allegedly) after the way he has gone on with my daughter and grandson.

Can't even imagine it .My first flat was a party/drink/sex den, come and go as and when .Having your on own independance should be top of the list on budgeting

This.

Also you don't leave home and buy a bloody house, you rent and save or not whatever, that is how you make it in life.
Took me till 37 (Left at 22, did one year post uni) to get the deposit together (we did both go back for further degrees that delayed that).
Have some pride and leave your mam and dad alone. Think how proud they'll be when you first have them to stay in you first proper home and YOU did it by hard work, I know mine were.

Why can't they be like the proper old lads who worked in factory's, downed 10 pints a night, smoked 50 tabs a day and had a house paid off on the wages of one person.

This! rent, gas, electric, council tax, tv tax, petrol, insurance, food, phone, broadband.

Wipes out best part of my monthly wedge. Nothing stupid either basic phone and Broadband

That's amazing but makes fuck all difference when a house costs 15x your annual salary.

you're wasting your time. they think because you can buy a derelict 2 bed in wheatley hill for 4 quid then it should apply to us. bearing in mind that my job, and i imagine yours as well, there are none of in the area

I was actually a little off with my earlier post.

It was 20x what my salary was when we moved in.

From what I can gather through films, the baby boomers were out every weekend with their sharp tailoring and pills and shiny scooters. So what gives eh?
I was one so I'll tell you. Very few of our generation went to uni, only the really clever people got there. The rest us got jobs,(apprenticeships, or labouring) and peddled our bikes, rode our old motorbikes or drove our battered up old cars to work and college. My first wage was £2.2s 6d a week. Beer was a bob a pint in the club, yes beer not fecking designer gin, champagne or cocktails. We learnt about cars, because we fixed our own, and went down the scrappie for spare parts. We didn't get into debt, if you wanted something you saved for it, and bought it cash. Our holidays were a week in Blackpool. Most of us left home before or soon after 21 years old, either renting a flat, shacking up with a girlfriend, moving in with a group of mates, or getting married and getting a mortgage. I think the key was, not living beyond your means, working all the overtime you could, and SAVING !!
