Exactly, having never listened to the pod cast not sure if hotels are to be near the ground but even so there cant be much demand for another 4 hotels in Sunderland either
We live in a big ole world marra. Hotels could be anywhere.

Our asset, the stadium, does generate money m8, it generates gate receipts, concerts, product sales etc, he's talking about being creative with the assets. Problem is you can only borrow against it once, then you're mortgaged up, and banks don't lend money for nowt. He can't borrow against it, For a speculative business, like hotels, and guarantee return, so to do it is just a gamble, just like my idea of going to vegas with a wad of cash.
It generates nothing for 28 days a month. Gates receipts for maybe 3 home games a month and one concert a year. Hotels was just an example - what about the principal ?

Sounded like a basic example he gave not a rounded up business plan. People are getting ahead of themselves.

There will be people who will complain if we mortgage the stadium

There will be people who complain of lack of investment in the playing staff

There will be people who complain about anything and everything the club does.

There were people who complained when we were second top of the Premier League.

There were some who complained after two top 7 finishes, despite it being the best football/time in the last 45 years.

He can't win as there is always be a complainer.

He must be mad to take the shit he has been dealt by so called supporters.
calm down Stewart

We had a rich owner and we spent millions on shit players who didn’t have SAFC at heart. Look where that got us.

Fans need to accept things have changed. The new owners have to rebuild in whatever way they can.

I'm 63, anything longer than a 10 year plan can go and get fucked ...

... borrow a fortune now and invest in a massive bribery programme to win the FA Cup and get into Europe.

I can drink mesel into a stupor and drown in a 'look at me' bridge jumping incident in a country I can't pronounce.

Job done, future generations can enjoy playing at the Stewart Donald Stadium in Crook and wondering where it all went wrong .... heh heh

We don't need to be taking these risks. We are in a great position in owning the stadium, and can rely on slow improvements without gambling it on additional liabilities

You ok mate? It's not your birthday is it?

Isn’t this how the spiral starts?

Exactly this.

If they’re talking about selling off part of our assets to finance the team that doesn’t inspire much confidence in me.

It took Leeds nearly 13 years to take back ownership of Elland Road after they had to sell up. The whole point of them buying Sunderland in the first place was that we owned our ground and we owned the academy.

This makes me feel uncomfortable tbh. Imagine if Short had come out and said this - we’d be up in arms.

Did he say around the ground? That would be daft, I doubt he means that.

That's what I thought. Maybe he means buying hotels in London, Birmingham, Manchester and the like. Never gonna make that much money with a hotel in Sunderland
