He sets us up so defensively, it's painful to watch to be honest. First half we come out so slowly, no intensity at all. Luckily, a bit of class from McGeady won us the game. I don't think we will go up automatically if manager persists with these negative tactics.

We always seem to start slow. Unsure if it's the way we're setup, the players themselves or the oppo restricting us in the early stages.

There was a passage of quick one touch interplay at one point which was absolutely fantastic. I wish we did it more often.

I work with a lot of jock fans and they are all saying he needs 2 seasons to get his team together and get them playing his way. I'm not convinced and I think he's got one style and doesn't know how to change it up to get a result or hang on to one . I think he's out of his depth genuinely
and we have had two league defeats, I think he's drowned mate.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

I think it’s difficult really to assess the manager so far. We were a sinking ship so in some ways it wasn’t an easy job to try and get rid of the dead wood and build a team to get us back up. Then on the other hand we are a huge club in this league with the biggest budget, we had new owners which lifted the club and some players that are far better than most at this level. We should get promoted.

The test for him will come next season, if of course we do go up. Anything less than top 2 wont be good enough imo.

Other than the Barnsley game and the first half at Charlton we've been awful since October. The performances need a huge improvement if we're going to go up automatically and hopefully Grigg can be as productive as Maja was.
Mmm despite going 3-0 up against Barnsley they looked a decent side, came back strongly in the second half and we were hanging on at the end, agree about Charlton

Morgan and leadbitter will be as important as even with Maja banging them in there were too many draws.

Love it how all the championship managers on here know how to put a team out with the players we've got, that would entertain and bring home the points.

If he played more attacking football we may not have the fewest defeats in the country barring Liverpool, we may not now have arsenal only above us for scoring in every game ever, we mightn't be in a position where win our games in hand and we're joint top. Ffs give the lad a break from the constant negativity, we're an ok team in a shit league, his job is to get us out of it, and that's what he's doing, the constant whinging here, on the phone ins, at the ground, in the pub etc, is getting f***ing embarrassing now, we're turning in to them up the road!

I don’t understand why people have such a strong stance against 1 up top.
We are playing pretty much the same formation as the best teams in the world.
The only difference is they play higher up the pitch. They get away with it because most teams they play against don’t play long ball which unfortunately if we went for a high press would probably get caught out sooner or later.
It sounds like our tactic is to spread the game as much as possible and get people 1 on 1. Which is exactly where our goal came from.
I’d of course like a high pressing game as I think it’s whatgets our fans excited but in this league it’s so easy to play against.
A big difference is that there isn't such a big disconnect between the midfield and the attack with the good teams.

Far too often you hardly see any of our players in the box with a lone striker isolated.

Has to consider a more attacking approach IMO. No need to have 2 holding players
we have had home games with Maguire, gooch, macgeady, maja, power starting who I wouldn't call defensive there are only a certain amount of attacking players you can play.

Thought we generally looked pretty comfortable once it got back to 3-2 although granted we looked all over the place between their 1st and 2nd

For yonks, we have had the same pre-match training - players lining up to shoot. However, they must be so bored with this that they forget to continue it into the match...

  • Played 3 games fewer than the teams currently sitting 1st, 5th and 6th; and 2 games fewer than the teams in 2nd and 3rd
  • Scored the 4th most goals in the league
  • Conceded the joint fewest in the league
  • Won the 5th most games in the league - win 1 game in hand and we’ve won joint 4th most, win 2 of our games in hand and we’ve won joint 2nd most, and win all 3 of our games in hand and only Luton will have won more
  • Lost at least 2 fewer than any other team in the division
  • Every team in the division raises their game significantly against us

Yet somehow the SMB reckons we concede too many, don’t score enough, we have no chance of automatic promotion and Jack Ross is out of his depth!

I hope Grigg is comfortable with playing up front as a one because it hasn’t worked for any other strikers. To get the team forward we have to retain possession up there and and we rarely do. If not we need a change of system.
