Ched Evans...

Can’t help but think when I see a passionate Ched Evans defender that “there goes someone who half expects a hand on their own shoulder any minute.”

Imagine making the “good character” of that numpty your hill to die on.

It was sarcasm ...... innocent and not guilty may be grammatically different but guilty is much worse.

It's more than a grammar issue. You can commit a crime and be found not guilty as there's not enough evidence to prove overwhelmingly that you did it.

Anyway, that's my last comment on it, not something I want to get dragged into!

There is no possible/ probable about it mate.

There will be a social media shitstorm, on here, if he signs.

I’d be surprised if the clubs current owners actually sanctioned it regardless of his case being quashed or whatever it was.

Time will tell.

.... he's already played for 3 other clubs since he was cleared.

 There's no such term as 'overwhelmingly' in the judicial system mate.

My point is that he's not guilty, all he or anyone else should be interested in.

He's trending on twitter now man. Honestly the outrage is pathetic.

People were hoying the book at him due to his guilty verdict, but now he's been deemed innocent in the eyes of the law and thats good enough for me.

I get that Riv, that’s not here though.
As you’ve already alluded to in earlier posts this has the hallmarks of Di Canio from the press.

Since then we’ve had AJ and then last night’s news.

It will be a shitstorm regardless of not guilty verdict and previous clubs.

It's usually either,

A) He bought me a pint

B) He was a really good player

C) It was all the fault of his friends/daughter/wife

I'll hoy in a little bit of C), but he has to take responsibility for himself. All chatty about Sunderland with me around 1999 (?) when I met him in the toilets (!) at Central Station while he was playing for Boro- chatting back out and all fine until five bellies saw my shirt and went off on one, Gazza changed his attitude instantly.

TBF he was eventually found not guilty- but he is damaged goods-
Most importantly though-why him, he's 30 and worse than what we've sold- it's a desperate signing tbh

You can be deemed innocent if you're acquitted I believe.
This is how I see it: There is a presumption of innocence, i.e. the legal principle that one is considered innocent unless proven guilty. The prosecution must, in most criminal cases, prove that the accused is guilty beyond all reasonable doubt. If reasonable doubt remains, the accused must be acquitted. We are into semantic realms now, but this is the law we're talking about, so that's entirely appropriate! Pedantry is a must, ha ha.
So, after his first conviction was quashed, Mr Evans was back to the starting position of being presumed innocent. On his retrial, he was found not guilty by the jury. That's it.
It's a different but related point: in my opinion, this case and many others like it, demonstrate why accused should also have anonymity, which should only be lifted following conviction. As it happens, this wouldn't have helped Evans much as he was convicted first time around, but I still believe it's a valid point in regard to sexual offences generally. As the old saying goes: time does not bleach the stain.
