Sinclair has never been an out and out goal scorer, Vaughan didn't play in this league for us, neither did fletcher and Wyke has been fucked all season and only starting to get a few games under his belt.

The fact is the club has only had one goal scorer for the last 6 months and credit to him he has been doing it, but I've no doubt if we sign someone like grigg, he will have just as good a record
To be fair to Grigg he got 19 (1) in only 2447 mins on pitch so a goal every 129 mins. He played in 42 games but for whatever reason started in only 29, being subbed off in 22 of those.

Wyke got 15 so only 4 less but played 3449 minutes so over 1000 more minutes that Grigg.

Only thing is that Wigan were a really attacking side creating alot of chances, we aren't attacking and don't create near the same level of chances. Would rather have Maja because he's a sure thing. Plenty to say Grigg could do a job though.

There are only 4 sides to have less shots thank us this season. Wimbledon, Bradford, Fleetwood & Blackpool.

Fair comment, marra. Don't think we need any stats on this one....

Yeh, it valid like.

Created constant pressure as any clearances towards him came right back.

Wykes limited but at least they know theyre in a game and retaining the ball better may see us over the line.

Thats a poor stat at the end like.

We've given up an extra 80 shots on our goal than Luton, an extra 50 than Pompey and an extra 115 to Barnsley. Even though we've played less games than these teams anarl

Half the story obviously but still impressive feat. We've got lowest % for shots on target that actually go in so probably down to our keeper there. I dug last years up and we were 2nd only behind Burton. Conceded 37% of the shots that were on target

Plenty room for improvement you could say.

Yes mate. I dug up save % and McLaughlin had the best % of saves from shots on target quite comfortably in the SPL. He's also top of league 1 this year for the same stat so showing his quality. We can just leave him to crack on

Do you know Grigg’s conversion rate stats? I was reading Wigan fans’ views of him (they all love him) and someone said he needs three clear cut, east chances to score but the very next post argued that he’s clinical and only needed half a chance a game to get a goal so I’m obviously non the wiser.

With regard to Wyke, didn’t he have 15 of his goals before Christmas and than tail off for the rest of the season? If he could have another half season like that then we’re laughing.

Seem to recall Bradford we’re flying last season before Christmas and then appointed Grayson. They didn’t do so well after that for whatever reason.

Why will anyone we sign suddenly improve from scoring at a rate of 1 in 4 or 5 chances to 1 in 2? Sometimes, you've got to let your prejudice go.

Im a huge Ross fan but basically weve been a class keeper and clinical finisher away for mid table!

Still looking forward to rest of season like.

Let's hope so, mate.

Don't have the full stat. Found an article from when he had 11 goals after 31 games and it was 35%.

This season he's only had 17 shots for Wigan. 4 goals. Played 895 mins.

f***ing hell Maja was good - only 5 shots he had on target didnt go in.

Don't know how we go about replacing him - all the others seem shite.

Just over one in three in League One then. Better than any of the strikers you've listed in the OP other than Maja obviously. Understandable why we're targetting him. The Wigan fans all mentioned that he worked his bollocks off and that his link up play was underrated too. God I hope we get him.

He's been phenomenal, no doubt. It's not as if his shots were from easy situations either. If anything the ones he missed, particularly two headers against Barnsley were easier than most he converted.

Aye. Maja was a freak of nature pushing the team up the league. We've also got statistically the best keeper in the league, as he was statistically the best keeper in the SPL last year.

Bottom line is unless we improve on the pitch then reastically we are making it difficult for ourselves. Would have been interesting to see Maja & Grigg together. I don't think he fits the policy of signing players we know can make the step up next year (Donald said it on the podcast but might eat his words here, Leadbitter & Grigg) however we are really signing for need at this point. Dangerous game in January.

It's incredible when you see it on paper - the least amount of shots generally too I believe?

Played less minutes than any of the League's top ten scorers too.

Aye mate Maja 15 from 25 I believe. Not all starts too. He'd played 500-600 less minutes than Lynden Gooch for us for example. Never mind strikers at other teams who've also played more games!

If we get Grigg then I don't think we can categorically write off his ability in the league above. A lot of the Wigan fans (sorry to harp on about them!) think he's up to the standard providing the team are playing football, on the ground which is to his strengths. Apparently the first month or so of the season they were doing just that and he scored goals and they won games. Since then, mainly due to injuries to key midfielders (Powell etc) Cook has lost his nerve and thrown out the blueprints to his success there and resorted to hit and hope long ball and Grigg has been a fish out of water since. Cook even said something to this effect.

With regards to Leadbitter, Stoke and others in the Championship were after him so there's a suggestion that others believe he still has something to offer at that level.
