His so called injured ankle was in fact a small mark left by his mother's hand as she dangled him into the River Wear in an attempt to gain immortality for her only son. Despite a conspicuous absence of Greek lineage, it was nevertheless to prove his Achilles heel, as he was charged with witchcraft (some said wizardry) and burned at the stake, which in turn explains the origin of that now famous phrase: Will Grigg's on fire....
