Their name is Nottingham Forest. Shortening it to ‘Notts Forest’ or ‘Forest’ is exactly the same as shortening Wolverhampton Wanderers to ‘Wolves’ or Tottenham Hotspur to ‘Spurs’.

Or villa. How many times do hear them being called Aston Villa. I think the nail was hit a while back, the op didn’t know they were called Tottenham Hotspur.

Nah, I know what the crackerjack is thinking, and that's for Nottingham Forest to be shorted to "Ests" for it to be the same as Tottenham Hotspur being called Spurs (basically half the last word and stick an s on the end).

Off. His. Tits.

The Rests has a canny ring to it.

OK, just standing on the edge here, wondering what would happen if someone threw a rock into this pool.

OP says Spurs isn't a nickname, or a shortening, its using a 'name' that isn't their real name. We are all struggling with this and can find examples very similar (we think) like say Palace, but Spurs isn't Hotspur, its got an S added when abbreviated.

OK would that make them unique?

Just for starters - what about Boro, that is used like Spurs isn't it? not a nickname like Black Cats, gunners etc and isn't quite present in MIddlesbrough (less so than Spurs in Hotspur) so isn't it a name that isn't their real name?
