Awful news for us. Itll be pittance now or a pre contract for nowt in the summer

Financially, maybe. However, if his head is in the right place then he might just help us gain promotion before he goes.

There's an argument to be made that keeping him and going up is preferable to selling him now, signing an unknown quantity to our team, and missing out because we can't score enough goals.

Bored of this now. I'd put the contract on the table, if he signs then great, if not then get as much as we can for him and even if he doesn't go in January, make sure he never puts a Sunderland shirt on again. Had enough the last few years of players putting our colours on but not really wanting to he here.

Never be good enough for the top flight, was watching a YouTube montage of him (don’t watch our games anymore) and he looked shite tbh. Can’t junp, can’t challenge aerially, not that quick, not that strong.
Bit like Defoe

Well that article must be bollocks; on the one hand it's mentioning a player moving on loan to us as part of the deal (suggesting that they'd sign him in January), then it goes on to say they'd have to pay minimal compensation and can get him on a pre contract due the cross border rules, in which case there'd be no January deal and no player moving in the other direction. You'd think they'd make their mind up which article they're going to write!

Sorry but this is such utter bullshit, he has been playing really well, and is the main reason we are 3rd and not way off in the playoffs
He hasn't got a bad atttidue

We are in league, newsflash, we aren't the biggest club in the world, if he has thw chance to go to a premier league club or a good move to Germany why does that make him a bad person or unproffesional

Its like wycombe fans saying o'Nien is a bad apple because he wanted to move to Sunderland, its just nonsense

People treat players leaving like total traitors its bizarre.

Its a job and a business, and he is still giving his all and scoring goals, he should be absolutely not sold in any circumstance, he can get us promoted. Nobody else scores or is near double figures

Do you think O'Nien or any of them wouldn't leave if they could get a better offer, of course they would, just like any player below Sunderland would come here.

This not fussed now. Every player is replaceable now.

Oh and don’t expect Grigg to come, that smells of SD trying to scare Maja’s agent to get him to sign.

If Maja is off, or wants off, I’d hope we can get him motivated enough to do the business for the rest of the season. The club losing him for maybe 500k comps would be worth it if we get promoted, risky though because he may not keep up his form. Disappointed in the lad for stringing us along, thought he’d have give us a bit honesty. Can’t trust anyone can ya.

I remember Hendo told one of me mate’s he was staying, and a week later he was gone. Sure the hierarchy had something to do with that like.

Same I’m sick of hearing about it now.

Here’s a bit of contrived positivity, what if he was meeting his agent in York to sign his new SAFC contract and they’re going to announce it today????

Maja’s future has been the subject of sustained speculation recently, with the 20-year-old, who is due to become a free agent at the end of the current campaign, having turned down the offer of a new contract at the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland have looked into the possibility of selling the striker this month in order to maximise his financial value, but Jack Ross has indicated a desire to keep him until the end of the season if possible and that now looks the likeliest scenario.

Maja is happy to see out the current campaign on , and while a number of Championship clubs are known to be interested in acquiring his services when he becomes a free agent, his representatives have set up an array of potential options in the German Bundesliga.

Maja is tied to the Elite Project Group, an agency that has developed strong links with clubs in the German top-flight in the last couple of years. Their clients include Jadon Sancho, who has made a huge impact since leaving Manchester City to join Borussia Dortmund, Reiss Nelson, who is on loan at Hoffenheim from Arsenal, and Ademola Lookman, who had a successful loan spell at Red Bull Leipzig last season before returning to England to break through at Everton.

While Maja is expected to receive a number of offers to remain in England, he would be able to command much higher wages in the Bundesliga than at the majority of clubs in the Championship. The situation might change if he was offered a move to the Premier League, but despite suggestions of interest from Cardiff City and Crystal Palace, he could struggle to attract an offer from a top-flight side given his limited experience outside League One.

Maja’s contractual situation means his representatives can speak to overseas clubs this month, and there are understood to have been discussions with at least three Bundesliga teams.

Regardless of whether Maja opts to remain in England or move overseas, his age means Sunderland will be due compensation if he leaves Wearside as a ‘free agent’. However, because he spent his formative years with Crystal Palace and Fulham and did not join Sunderland until 2015, the will not receive as much as they would have if he had been on their books throughout his development.

Maja missed last weekend’s draw with Luton Town because of a stomach bug, but is set to return to the Sunderland squad for Saturday’s game at Scunthorpe United with Ross happy with the youngster’s attitude despite the contractual impasse.

Saturday’s trip to Glanford Park could also see Jimmy Dunne make his Sunderland debut, with the Burnley loanee having been an unused substitute against Luton.

All a calculated gamble now. Is it worth more to have him get us promoted than to make say £2m now?

Got to trust the manager to make that judgement. If Ross thinks his attitude is good then I'd say it's worth keeping him to ensure promotion. Even if we signed someone 100% proven at this level like Billy Sharp there is no guarantee he would settle or fit into the team.....we know Maja scores goals for us.

To me it’s one of them where it just works for people at certain clubs, could stay here and be a hero or go somewhere else and just be an average joe. Like bent and Defoe they could of been worshipped if they stayed. Might not be the same for maja but it Would of been good to see him try get about 30 this season then try get 20 in the championship.
