SMB Tennis thread

Dart and Evans have made it through to the final qualifying round where they will face the top seeds of their section, but Ward lost in 3 sets.

Great win for Cam Norrie in his Auckland 250 QF vs Fritz. He now plays either PCB or Struff in the semi final.

I see the main draw for the Aussie Open is out.

Tough draw for Murray and edmond

Kyrgios v Raonic in the first round to play the winner of Wawrinka v Gulbis :lol: could realistically have been a couple of quarter finals a few years ago. Not got much hope for Murray from what's being reported from his match with Djokovic earlier on. Really doesn't sound good.

Simona Halep might have the toughest route to a final a #1 seed has ever had at a Grand Slam.

Djokovic destroyed Murray in an exhibition match last night. Murray retired at 6/1, 4/1 down. I think the end is nigh for Murray.

28 Spanish players arrested for match fixing. No names yet.

I think he will after Wimbledon. He only held his serve once. He has no power. The touch and finesse shots are still there but he will lose to most players in the top 100 now and that will be hard to deal with.
Sad news.
Shocking draw for Federer and nadal...lump your money on Djokovic :(

Djokovic might have to beat Tsonga, Shapovalov, Medvedev and Nishikori just to win his quarter!
Yeah, I was going to say similar. A lot of the dangerous players like Anderson, Khachanov and Cilic, obviously Fed/Nadal depending on who's perspective you're looking at are in tge bottom half, but Djoks path up until the latter stages is certainly no cakewalk, although he'll probably make it look that way.

Was Jack Socks ranking good enough to get into the main draw? I remember they were saying at the end of year championships he would have to qualify.

What time does the play start UK time again? I remember some the evening sessions (qf & semis) running onto about 2pm UK time.

Midnight each night, so start 12am Sun night / Monday morning, those matches will generally run through to about 9am, but the evening session starts at 8am each day and I think that's just 1 court (unlike the US, which now has 2) and 2 matches, usually a men's and women's match. Probably won't get super late finishes now with the introduction of the Super Tie Breaks in the 5th set of men and 3rd set of the women's.

Actually, think they do use 2 courts for the evening sessions, Rod Laver Arena and Margaret Court.

With a first round match against one of the local wildcards as well....

Aye, both will be fairly happy with that draw, but you'd expect Jack to win despite his 2018.

Surprised they picked Bolt ahead of Kokk who had to go through qualifying, unless they are confident Kokk would sail through quals and there'd be an extra Aussie in the main draw.

I'll go for the following quarter finals:

Serena vs Ka Pliskova
Sevastova vs Svitolina
Sabalenka vs Barty
Bertens vs Kerber

Not too many stand out 1st round matches in the women's this time. Last year you had the likes of Barty-Sabalenka and Venus-Bencic. The ones I'm looking forward to are - Halep vs Kanepi, Bouchard vs Peng (both finding form), Keys-Aiava, Bencic-Siniakova and Sakkari vs Ostapenko, but the latter is in awful form.

There's also some interesting youngsters in the final round of qualifying - Swiatek, Kostyuk and Andreescu and there's some pretty generous qualifier placements, so they could have an impact if they can come through later on.

I'd say Konta-Tomljanovic is 50/50, Boulter could get past Makarova, but don't have much hope for Watson against Martic. Hopefully Harriet Dart can join them later.

Oh no...

Andy Murray has to leave the press conference room in tears after saying his hip feels "not great". Distressing

Oh fuck, he's actually retiring after Wimbledon
