His agent told him not to;

His agent went to Sky Sports and said Maja won’t be signing;

Donald responded on Twitter saying Maja had arranged to sign but then came back and said his agent told him not to.

Donald now says they’re working to change his mind.

It was going to be public regardless, by doing this Donald has got in front of the story and at a stroke, the player will still be supported by the fans as it's his agent that's the problem, not the player. If sky had broke this news first, then the stories of Maja agreeing to the contract and then refusing to sign would be the story, people would get on his back and it would be counter productive to try to keep him. As is, the fans will still support him and we control the narrative and it becomes "evil nasty double crossing greedy agent" rather than "greedy player".

Why do players at this level even need agents? A ronaldo or Messi you can argue would need one for sponsors etc but a league 1 player? Na it’s not right. The most players at this level need is a lawyer.
