As for the atmosphere....it was a League 1 game against Bradford. What do people expect....the atmosphere of BSA games v Everton/Chelsea, beating The Mags, Di Canio v Everton???

Yes it was, was a quality game and we played some great stuff.

I'm glad you're easily pleased....Bradford looked better than us at times and the crowd on the whole were quiet!

Ross has not built a side that he promised and most of the time it's dull, but we are getting results. When that stops though which it will if we don't start buying championship quailty in january, we'll be back to square one.

If you’d blinked you’d have missed it

First match in 18 months.
It’s a different club
Very impressed, supporters behind the players was noticeable, really good vibe inside the stadium, Methven at half time, reception given to Lake Poets guy was superb.
The new seats (shouldn’t be underestimated)
Seemed to me like the people of Sunderland have their club back.
Well done to all concerned

Mag propaganda machine in overdrive for this one:
"Gave away thousands of free tickets", "All tickets were a Fiver" etc etc
As usual, of course, none of it remotely true.
Bless 'em - they're a very insecure lot...

Tottenham fans not far behind them either:
"Capacity limited to 51k at Wembley" etc
Although that would be a better point if their crowd hadn't been 6k below that figure...

Must have been to a different game to me, however football is all about opinions.

We were the better side through out (apart from 15/20 mins in the 2nd half) we could have gone in at half time at least 2 up.

Define "square one". If you're trying to imply that we'd be in millions of debt with a team that in the main couldn't care less about the club, then I think you're mistaken. Ross promised attacking football. That's what we get. He also promised a team of honest players who want to play for us. That's also what we get. Unless I've completely misunderstood your point, it seems devoid of merit.

Plenty of whinging in it though and that’s the SCT modus operandi.

Aye - get the dosh picked from that magic money tree

We're obviously going to make the play-offs.....whether we can make top 2 is more debatable. I do think our results have actually been better than the performances in recent matches but that said winning games by the odd goal when you're not at your best is a good quality to have. A decent run of form in terms of playing well, scoring goals and winning matches easily is what we really want to see happen in the first part of 2019 as that will take us away from the pack.

A record for this division and higher than anything in the championship. Not to mention it will be higher than a lot of premier league crowds.

Third largest crowd for the third tier, ever

The Boxing Day Massacre, was a match played on 26 December 1979. It was famous for being the biggest win in recent times, when Wednesday won 4–0, with goals from , , and Jeff King. The United side at the time were top of the league, while Wednesday were 4th in the table. The match was watched by a record crowd of 49,309 spectators.

Only handful of clubs ever got crowds of over 30K for big matches in the third tier with averages between 20K and 25K in promotion seasons.

Sheff United got 45K for the return match and Villa got 48K v Bournemouth in 71-2.

Square one as in another season of trying to get out of this league.....You are the one doing the implying!

Well we won't get out of this league or promoted from or survival in the championship on the cheap.

Had Spurs mates of mine saying they didn't sell out as there were no tubes running.
it's 12km from White Hart Lane to Wembley.
And the buses apparently take 90 minutes.
f***ing southern pansies

Can't believe after all the build up and hype that they put 36K up on the screen

Ssssshhhh ffs, hiding a little bit back from the taxman to help fund January's transfer window.

Other clubs also know got a few more pennies held back now. Mark my words, prices and fees will now increase

Congratulations supporters of Sunderland FC on that phenomenal crowd attendance today. I don't think that even if we at Portsmouth had a stadium big enough that we would have got such a crowd as that, in fact I am pretty sure of it. Obviously the support at Sunderland is Premier League supporting a League 1 team which I am pretty sure will be back in the Championship next season, with us I hope. Getting crowds like that will make every other team in this league, and those in the Championship, green with envy. In the transfer window you should get the pick of players who would play in League 1 want to join you and get to savor such support. Well done.

Cheers fella, all support for any club should be appreciated. It makes the occasion and produces an atmosphere to encourage the players to perform.

Sorry & thank you for the correction, Sunderland AFC. I hope we don't end up in the play offs because I don't fancy our chances there. Luton are going like an express train now and Charlton are a class act at this level. We can't have any more games like today where Gillingham had three attempts at goal and score 2 while we had 20 attempts and missed them all including 4 'sitters'.

Shit happens fella, we had ours when our player got himself red carded. Law of averages, mean something somewhere, somehow and sometime will go wrong.

To be fair, it is the response that follows that matter. Does it carry on and your team falls off, or just a blip on the day. Only time will tell for all.

Seasons end is where it matters as we are all aware of.

We already have the biggest budget in this league by miles. Worry about the Championship when we get there - we cannot and must not start budgeting for something that we haven’t achieved yet......we can’t go back to massive deficits

Good post except SAFC is much more than the city of Sunderland(if I read this right)
