Here we go. The glorious 1890s.
What has Benitez won at Newcastle? Fuck all, what he's won at other clubs is irrelevant but if you want to go down that route we had Howard Wilkinson who is the last Englishman to win the league. Again something Benitez has never done.

That was a freak season where every thing where the stars aligned to ensure a fifth place finish.
Similarly for Leicester when they won the league 4 years later.
Newcastle were the 5th best team, and Leicester were the best, but it relied on many others having poorer seasons than they normally would.
Hence both clubs getting nowhere near that again

Why did you's want Bruce out after a poor start despite finishing 10th only a few months earlier? He could've put a run together and done ok again
Cos he was a fat mag bastard.

I’m not ashamed or embarrassed. But on the other hand I’m not the one acting the twat on someone else’s message board.

Fair play. You are acting the twat on your own message board.

He's won nowt at Newcastle. But thats OK as nobody has since Joe Harvey in 1969. If managerial reputation & record at other clubs is so irrelevant it makes you wonder why clubs dont just open a telephone directory & pick a name.

Thing is he got the Real Madrid job. We can all say now with no sense of being held hostage to fortune that Jack Ross is never going to manage Madrid. Or Milan. Or Liverpool. Benitez has a reputation & more to the point a trophy winning record that exceeds all managers Sunderland have ever had. Yet he gets trashed on here.
Again you may be right on Ross we don't know if it will happen, can't speak for anyone else on here but in my opinion he is vastly over-rated based on the fact he was originally hired to save the team from relegation and failed when several average Sunderland managers did it a few years in a row, he has been there 3 years come January and has not brought the team forward in any way and that is because he doesn't develop teams and nurture talent.

People can blame Ashley for some things but what about bringing through young Geordies instead of signing dross like Javi Manquillo and Joselu, surely there are better players around the region than those two?

First he has brought the team forward. He came with the club in a relegation position and theres no reason to doubt they wont be in such a position when he leaves. Second anybody watching the McClaren team he inherited will appreciate theres been a massive team development. Third the comparison with average Sundeland managers keeping the club up is absurd given the two teams are two divisions & 20,000 fans apart.

Actually your history is a bit shit when we've had a manager with FIVE English titles (Three at Sunderland) and a World Club Champions Title.

Were they 20000 fans apart in 1979 when you took less than 100 fans to Blackburn? I was there, with 4901 others.

Thanks largely to the terrible quality of a number of other teams rather than any improvement in yours. Doubt if there’s ever been so much dross in the Prem

Jesus, you are either 12 or with a 12 IQ

You are spot on - a few points above relegation is soooooo much better than the relegation he brought about with so many more games to dig them out than several Sunderland managers had - DIRECT comparison. He has achieved a miracle.

Love the way Sunderland fans get so exercised over the Intercitiesthingyjob. Theres not a single set of supporters anywhere who give a flying one about it. Except youse. Torture yourselves over it.

Beautiful. You quote it then WE'RE the obsessed ones - your gravy-stained brethren will be furious at you running it down. You do all care about it as accepting the truth means your last competitive major trophy is closer to your founding than the present. Painful that.

You're right their has been a massive team development, it's a lot worse than the one he inherited.

I disagree with that because he is keeping them in exactly the same position as they were before he took over. Mark my words give him money and will fill the squad with rubbish without thinking about tomorrow.(the keeper was a good signing tbf)

What has attendances and divisions got to do with premier league survival?? :lol:, Di Canio, Advocaat, Poyet, O'Neill all off the top of my head managed to keep Sunderland up in the league (with less games in some cases) and against teams like City and Chelsea;

There seems to be a cult of Benitez where he can never put a foot wrong.

In this case not so. Not this time. That notwithstanding you are right, t isn’t your message board, so why don’t you fuck off and have a blether with Michael Martin. You’d get on like a house on fire.
