66000 SOL

Possibility of safe standing on horizon may help the supposed German model talked about in terms of getting the punters in with cheaper tickets? Then we can fill the ground we have hopefully. I am assuming safe standing does not increase capacity as it’s stnading but with a seat that can fold down when needed? So capacity remains same?

If England pitch for and then win the World Cup bid I think that there would be a reasonable chance of the SOL being selected and then extended.

Ridiculous? Sunderland supporters wanting the Club to grow and be one of the biggest clubs in the country? Aye ridiculous :)
Using man city as a reason as to why we should be looking to extend the ground is ridiculous. As you well know.

I wasn't saying either that we should or should not increase our capacity, nearly putting some numbers out there ,and by the way we averaged just short of 39 that season in the second tier .
The inference was clearly there.

Whats the point? We'd probably have been better keeping it at 42k in hindsight

Why? Paid for itself, looks that bit different/better like a big European stadium when looking down from the concourse towards the north stand. I'm proud to have a ground like that and aspire towards the 66k, even if it's never likely to happen. There's always that chance though.

Well yes of course I'd love it to be so.This is my last posting tonight (promise) I'm off to the boozer .However in 1971 when we averaged 15k did anyone say that a 50 plus Roker was too big and a relic of the past no we dreamt of better days ahead and 2 years down the line we saw Roker full once more

When we had a team competing in the top ten of the premier league 47,000 wasnt enough. The new owners have ambition to take us there and chuck in the german model of affordable football why cant we look to push on. We are uniquely placed in this country man to do this. A lot of clubs would kill to be in our position.

If we get kids in when they are young we are buidling our support for decades to come. Im a Sunderland supporter amongst many a mag. Im a Sunderland supporter because I had the chance to go to Roker Park like a lot of my fellow fans. Mr Methven is talking about getting our natural heartlands back - we need to get young uns to the SOL

Thankfully I think the new owners have a lot more vision and foresight than some of the doom mongers on here. If Bob Murray had listened to you in 1995 we would still be at Roker Park with 14,500 capacity.

We averaged over 46k twice. Other than that, we've only had a few seasons where we were averaging about 1-1.5k over the original 42k. All in all, I don't think the extension was worth it from that point of view - given the remaining 12 seasons where we have been below 42k (sometimes significantly below). Aside from the costs of building it, there's also ongoing costs. Plus the detrimental effect on the atmosphere in the stadium.

That being said, Bob mentioned the other day in the podcast that the extension was necessary in order to be able to proceed with further developments around the stadium.

Working out the costs on an average at the time, it will have paid for itself anyway just with the averages over the first two seasons it was up. Who really gives a shit if it's not full. Also ludicrous to suggest the detrimental effect it has on the atmosphere at the stadium as if it's not the fault of the football/feeling at the club at any particular time, as if it has to be full (not to mention the fact there would still be 12,000 empty seats at the moment anyway and thus it's short of being 3/4 full @42k).

Exactly.

As I have said hopefully the new owners have a lot more vision than some doom mongers on here. MAGS or WUMs Im sure some of them are.
