Looking back, our attendance averages have been a bit weird. Not really correlating with what was happening on the pitch. Two of our top 5 averages happended in those god awful seasons when we only started winning games in March.

I think those couple of seasons when Quinny had a bee in his bonnet he wasn't looking at the bigger picture with the recession and things like that. Then ya've got factors like the derby - a couple of seasons we didn't have one; whether we were at home on the first day of the season and/or Boxing Day, when ya play Man Utd, what games are on the telly etc. At the end of the day, our real loyal fanbase is in the 20,000s, not the 30s.

Agree with the fan base, the fact Methven and Donald have to put something out about meeting 30k proves that surely. And also agree with the recession part, it was tough for a lot of people and the matchday prices at the time were a bit steep for some.

Of course, I'd forgotten about that. That correlates with the drop 2009-13 and then it started to go up again.
 
I got told many years back that when the discussion was had about extending Reid asked for the money it would cost to expand to invest in the team. Apparently it got heated and they had a bit of a fall out over. This was in some official board meeting and Reid demanded it all be noted down on record that he objected and why.

However how much of that is true is another matter.
 
In the first season after the extension was built we pulled in an extra 100,000 paying customers that we wouldn't have otherwise if the capacity had still been 42k. If the average price of a ticket back then was £15 that would have generated £1.5m. I cannit be arsed to look at attendances for every season since it was built but it must have paid for itself by now. What did it cost, £6m?
 
Think Murray said in the podcast the other week that the reason it was expanded to 48k so quickly was because planning permission was going to run out and he wanted it doing sooner rather than potentially lose out in the long run.
 
Put a winning side together and lower the ticket prices and people will turn up.

Make the Stadium more accessible and a more attractive proposition for ‘non-hardcore’ fans and again people will turn up.

The next step would be to extend above the South Stand but at the moment we wouldn’t even sell out a 42k capacity.

The extension wasn’t done on the first 7th placed finish. Ave prob c40,800.
Think we averaged 45k or so the following season

I was trying to figure out if it has paid for itself working on a average of 20 quid a ticket for the top tier. But I'm thick as fuck and my head hurts

I reckon we are still some way off breaking even on it.

You build for the future, of course it was worth it.

If England ever get a major tournament and we are given a grant to further extend the stadium, I also think we should accept it.

Of course we could, we have had to remain ambitious.
 
If football tickets prices were 70% cheaper and we were in the premier league (doing well) then maybe it would be considered. But even if we did the demand probably still wouldn't be there.

We’d need regular top 6 prem finishes and European football to reach those numbers imo.
 
The infrastructure around the stadium would need massive investment to handle 50+ thousand crowds. The council seems to be doing everything possible to stop people parking near the stadium. The Don keeps talking about the Dortmund model which is a
Case of packing the crowds in at very low tickets prices. A little success and we could potentially get huge crowds as long as they keep the ticket prices to a minimum.
