You have got a nerve mind - you haven't even had the bottle to express your own opinion and then say 'its your turn'.

Highlighted bit is just a daft statement - we are all expressing opinions (apart from you maybe). The statistics are only a guidance to our opinion. Statistics such as our league title wins in the 1890s may be facts but it is an opinion about how much they are worth in assessing how big a club is in 2018. I would suggest not much at all - I dont think anyone seriously in Italy would consider Genoa with 9 league titles (when Serie A was first formed) a bigger club than Roma with 2 or Lazio, Sampdoria, Torino etc but it is basically the argument we put forward.

Th
ose league wins are our heritage, we should be proud of them but when using them as a tool for assessing how big a club is now is a bit desperate as it would be if Genoa fans used it to argue they were bigger than those clubs. Our performances in the 1890s with 14 professional clubs mean we also have more league titles than Man City and Chelsea as well as the Mags. If some people on here try hard enough they can come up with 'facts' that support we are bigger than all 3.

Its also an opinion not a fact of how much weight you give recent times - I would say a lot. Just because a team is in the top flight now and we are struggling doesn't mean they are bigger than us (Huddersfield, Brighton, Burnley etc) but its reasonable to say that a team that has had more fans than us every season bar 2 in the last 40 years, a club that has played in Europe 122 times to our 4. A club that dwarfs us turnover wise even when we are like for league league position wise. If we had this argument in 1980 it would be a good argument we WERE IMO as big as them but times move on and in the last 30-40 years the sands have shifted considerably.

Why not? Does success only start with the advent of colour telly? Should we ask Italy to take 2 stars from their national shirt?

Were Tyson Fury's or Frank Bruno's titles worth more than Rocky Marciano's or Joe Louis'?

Do you think Genoa are a far bigger than Roma then with their 9 league titles to Roma's two then?

In fairness I think I've got this wrong and am missing the point. Football fans are entitled to make a case for their team use statistics to make their case. What they really believe doesn't come in it. Fuck the small time back and white twats - Tom Watson's red and white army.

What I honestly believe is that, Newcastle have been higher profile than us for the last 25 years due to the timing of their rise in conjunction with the Premier League era. If we're talking that, recent crowd size and playing in Europe (playing not doing anything in it) then yes, they have been bigger than us for that time. Big clubs win things however and football wasn't actually invented in 1992 so neither are big clubs but once were and we won more of the biggest prize.
So, I'd still say, over the 140 years of our respective clubs' existences, not much to choose between.

This is my honest view, without red and white glasses. If they'd won something in their 90s boom years then they'd have dwarfed us still. They didn't.
Shame, that.

Speaking of "your turn", will you finally answer me as to why the Mags are blatantly the bigger club? Please include only facts, since it would be "delusional" to think otherwise. It's the 3rd time I've had to ask this mind.
He's a mag :lol::lol::lol::lol:

In fairness that is a pretty good post, you argued your side with mainly facts.

I guess the difference between us is I don't weight league titles from back then any lower, not that they've won one since we have mind. I'd argue we had strong teams that challenged in the 1890s, 1910s, 1930s and 1950s. Truly until the over payments scandal in 1957 there were few clubs that could argue they were bigger. We were the last team to never have played outside the top flight. That's over half of the history of the club I don't think should be glossed over.

Imagine getting 60,000 fans for a final of a 'tinpot' trophy
Must be the best fans in the land then
You what

Several people like Stan Colleymore have remarked about the fact they didn't know about Sunderland's history. Facts not Bullshit.

So why ignore the fact that I only missed around 10 games in 35 years. Have posters on here that can verify that. Can give you the kind of detail on Sunderland games over that period that only Sunderland fans can know. I was at every game of the cup run in 85 bar forest away. Remember Whitehurst chinning gabbers away to Walsall when he tried to score from a tight angle rather than role the ball to him. Was at Blackpool when Atkinson stoke a Gabbiadini goal when toaching it in from an offside position. Was at Barnsley when we lost 2-0 building site debris blinding us all night and Brett Angel has a goal disallowed, I think it was the Matteo game where he wasn’t registered and I got back to the car to find England were 40 for 8 against the West Indies. Anymore?

Methinks thou doth protest too much. This is getting really boring. I can't prove a thing but I smell a skunk. You still haven't answered the question why you think your team is bigger? Oh and get the other Mag @Zinedine Kilbane to back you up.

You picked one of golfs greatest players to make a sarcastic point.

Post 16800 gives as clear an explanation why I think NUFC are a bigger club i'm just stating my opinion. Arguing a point you believe in doesn't make you less of a Sunderland fan. Arguing Sunderland are bigger out of blind stupidity just makes you stupid. As I say my record as a Sunderland supporter pisses all over yours. Were you one of the 8007 that attended Plymouth at home when the 13 Plymouth fans got moved from the away end into the seats? Did you travel to Portugal for the preseason tour 4 years ago? Did you attend 865 out of 875 home games over a 35 year period.

No you didn't but you did stick blindly and loyally to the Sunderland side of an argument on in internet message board

Shame, that.

Good post. however if you go back to the mid 80s. We had the same arguments about who the bigger club was but deep down fans on both sides knew there was nowt in it. So while football didn't begin in 1992 what has happened since then has clearly influenced things. They have become a bigger wealthier club over that period of time.

You can say pretty much anything on here. Actually proving it is another matter. I could say I've been to every game Sunderland have played in my lifetime but that would be a lie. I ask again if you're such a huge Sunlun fan why lick Mag ass. Sod it I'll answer for you it's because you're a skunk …:lol::lol::lol::lol:

I was being sarcastic went right over your head Mr Mag Oh and the wealthy argument kind of fucks up your argument as Fat Mike says he can't compete with the likes of Watford and Bournemouth. You're not a big club deal with it.:lol::lol::lol::lol:

It would be because your a shit fan who wont put his games on the table because you know they would pale into insignificance. Just be honest put them up there. Do you remember David Hodgson getting into a skirmish with the chicken run at West ham in 1984 when trying to retrieve the ball for a throw in? What accommodation did you stay at when you travelled to Wembley for the Mercantile Credit Classic? Tell me what was significant when you approached the away end for the Watford away game in the cup in 1985? What was significant about the Burnley cup replay in 1979 when we were beaten at home? If you were there you would know.

Ive forgotten more than you will ever remember watching SAFC games and you know it ;)
