Afghanistan beat Sri Lanka and Bangladesh comprehensively in initial stage to top group

Then in the second stage they lost 2 close ones on the trot to Pakistan (3 balls remaining) and Bangladesh (3 runs) and tied their last one against India (who were resting 4 players)

Even though they missed out on the final, arguably the second best side in the competition and the only one who has even come close to challenging India.

Less than 2 years ago, they would have been cannon fodder and teams like UAE and Nepal would have been competitive against them. The past 2 years, with the right exposure, their improvement has been impressive.

Makes you think what other associate countries could make the same leap if only given the right opportunities

Wouldn't fancy watching England play there mind.

I think Zimbabwe would have kicked on a bit more if it wasn't for the political situation. Only other African nations that I can see doing owt are Namibia and Kenya. Hopefully Ireland flourish but I think they were a much stronger side a few years ago. Think they're trying to entice the USA into the CPL by playing a few games in Florida.

Nepal is meant to have a big cricket following.

Absolutely. Great post Augustus.

It boils my piss what the ICC are doing to the associate nations. After all, we’ve had TWO countries given Test status in the last year off the back of those countries being given the chance to compete with the elite.

Now, they’re giving LESS opportunities to countries. Wankers.

We’re quite into it. Take a look at the crowd for a

I was at the CPL this year to watch one of our lads (sandeep lamichhane) play for st Kitts and he was one of the better bowlers in the first half of the tourney before he left to play the Asia Cup qualifiers.

Everywhere the lads play they usually end up with more support at the ground than the home team

Are you from Nepal like?

The more nations playing test cricket the better, Afghanistan should be playing it too as it will help keep the game alive.

Clearly Ireland and Zimbabwe should be in the 50 over World Cup but the BCCI don't want it so it won't happen The WC next year may become tedious to the point of boredom after the 200th group game. Big countries need to take more responsibility to grow the game by sending A teams on tour. It worked a treat in Zim in the 1980s, helped them become a good side in the 1990s before it all went wrong politically.
