Both instances would irritate me.

Socially it’s quite clear which is the worst but me personally it wouldn’t offend, sicken etc etc me.

I repeat yet again it isn’t something I’d do mind.

Interestingly it seems singing songs about wishing people dead is more acceptable than a comment about a black player and a banana.

If I was going to take offence at either of them it would be the former as oppose to the latter.

My Dad had an expression that he'd say about people he didn't trust ..... 'He's a bit Spanish'.

I've no idea where that came from and, probably, neither did he.

It was just a natural distrust of foreigners at the time he grew up in the NE, the period between the wars.

Of course there'd be a dislike of foreigners, for good reason.

There was little contact outside of armed conflict.

There's no such excuse these days ........
 
Well obviously it's nowhere near as bad as direct racial abuse or throwing bananas on the pitch, but it's indicative of the same mindset (especially given it's about our best young player this season).

Most of us would be a lot more irritated to hear that than to be next to someone standing up to try to get a Mexican wave going.

The only equivalence I can see is that both are decades out of date.

According to the OP he was shouted down by several people around him.

They were either his mates or strangers .... in either case I take my hat off to them.

Mexican wave starters are rarely told to fuck off in my experience.

He’s obviously decided who can be offended and who can’t. What is allowed to be offensive and what isn’t. He’s condemned entire communities as knuckledraggers, when in fact there are towns and cities up and down the country more worthy of this condemnation. He’s complained long and loud ( rightly so) about how offensive he finds racism and bigotry. Yet when he himself causes offence and this is pointed out to him this is how he responds.
As I posted, he’s a f***ing hypocrite.

I think that would be the wrong way to go about it to be honest, just driving people underground, makes them come back 10 times worse, if the last few years have taught us one thing, vigilance is the price we all must pay, better to call it out for what it is.

I have to say that I've never believed on "no-platforming". On the contrary, I believe that if you give them enough rope they'll hang themselves. This thread is testimony to this.

Agreed, however the whole point is, this thread proves it, out in the open to be called out and questioned is better than silencing peoples views.

Spot on mate. It wasn't just one or two posts though, he seems to be on a one man crusade to darken the name of some fine villages. We're all knuckle dragging Neanderthal racists in his eyes ffs.
