Racist away fans (again)

‘He would have controlled it if it was a banana.’

I know it is a minority and many fans told this fella to fuck off but the racist undertones to the treatment of Maja is very sad.

I love Sunderland but our away following embarrasses itself time after time.

Did you tell him to fuck off or report his racist behaviour to a steward?
Clearly telling him to fuck off wasn't going to change anything

Yet again a small proportion of the SMB rears it's unapologetically racist or homophobic head. Reflects on the small proportion of our match going fanbase too.

I've held a season ticket in several areas of the SoL since it opened and in every area I've heard racist remarks or shouts. Towards our players as well as the opposition. Most times, they've been shouted down, others, it's raised a laugh amongst other fans around.

It's a minority, but it's still too many.

IM not asking maja I’m asking a bloke on here who was getting offended on behalf of others.

There's a difference between "getting offended on behalf of others" and putting a stop to racist comments

And have you reported them to a steward?

Why does it bother you? One person making a nothing remark and you’d go running off to the steward.
What a f***ing fanny

And have you reported them to a steward?

I did. Yes. One lad who was consistently and constantly giving Dwight Yorke pretty sickening racial abuse.

I'm not trying to make a point of being offended, although I hate to hear it, just that it shouldn't be happening. You can have an 'opinion' but you should have the social awareness not to yell it loudly in front of thousands of others and many children.

Shocking if true and needs rooting out.

This

Not difficult even for a very soft shite to tell a racist to f***ing shut up without any threat of getting a smack - pack mentality would immediately protect you and the tougher lads sort it out.

So what you’re basically saying is. Why should a white person get offended on behalf of a black person.

Which then means you don’t understand racism at all.
I’m saying it’s a remark that isn’t worth getting offended over.

I also point out that I don’t recall any black person being offended on behalf of a white one when it comes to racism.

Shoe on other foot and the left jump straight out from inside their cereal cafe to compete against each other in the who can be the most offended stakes.

It bothers me because I think racism is disgusting and anyone that thinks its acceptable is a throwback to a bygone era.
Explain to me why calling one of our black players a monkey is acceptable.

In fact, don't bother. The fact that you think it's acceptable says everything about you.
f***ing racist bigot.

After telling the racist to fuck off, I'd tell the steward to and have them removed from the ground. There should be a zero tolerance towards racism.
If a player, any player miss-controls the ball, it's fine to have a moan - hell, call him crap if you want - but turning a criticism into a racist remark is unacceptable

Oh woe is me...
But but but black people....

Shut the fuck up man.

All this reminds me. Nice roast for dinner today. Egg or pineapple?

Thankfully most of these backwards wonders will be deed soon

Calling any player personally can be construed as unacceptable.

Let’s be honest here all this tip toeing round black people goes back to slavery really which is now a thing of the past but people just can’t let it go.

It’s funny how the blacks can quickly let go of their treatment towards the whites they enslaved in North Africa though. Apparently over a million suffered through this.

I wouldn’t do it but I wouldn’t be all offended and outraged if it happened.

 fuck me, that's quite an admission. I think some are overreacting on here to what sounds like a pissed up dickhead trying to be funny, I don't necessarily think the person who said it is a massive racist. Should have been told to shut up but not convinced he should be getting arrested or banned or whatever for it. Certainly it doesn't warrant the thread title which sounds as if SAFC have some major problem with racism.

That being said I'm amazed that you wouldn't be outraged if you were in a crowd and they were repeatedly making monkey noises at black players. I'm far from easily offended and I'd say I have quite a high threshold before I start getting offended on other people's behalf, but I'd be disgusted and embarrassed if there were monkey chants going on at a Sunderland game. I think you might be in a very small minority if it wouldn't offend you.

Fan not fans

Just what I was thinking. Whilst no one condones this type of behaviour, you do get a sense that the OP is blowing it way out of proportion. If someone were to just read the title, they'd presume there was a group of racist fans in our end yesterday, when you break it down however, it was one fan amongst circa 1,500, who by the sounds of it was instantly reprimanded by those around him.

It would get on my nerves in the same way a Mexican wave would or the tedious booing every time a former mag touches the ball but offended? Can honestly say not in the slightest.
