Donald on our January budget

merely stating the guy is "rumoured" to be after charlton...IF true he will get them for £30-40 million and have a pound or two left to strenghten,at present we are only 4 points ahead of them,if they started spending £20-30 million on 3 or 4 players i would expect them to get top 2 for sure, arsenal have fuck all to do with it,

£20-30m on 3 or 4 players? In League One.

What the bollocks has happened to this place?

You're right getting promoted is the main aim, regardless of how it happens. Apparently a few legacy payments have crawled out of the woodwork since. It will be interesting to hear the full interview in yhe morning. Fact is Short disowned the club while here and those left to run it left us in this situation. Supposedly we have had to write an unexpected cheque to Everton for Darron Gibson.

Yeah but I have no sympathy, they got a massive club for fuck all, you expect some initial investment when you first get it to get the whole thing going and I’ve not seen much

Funny I didn’t mention points at all. It equals more money (generally) at this level that would be a huge difference.
30000 instead 10000 of at todays game = £200,000 extra,cattermole and oviedo's wage's will take 50% of that,then we still have the 2 clowns

We are now

No we aren’t

And that attitude will end up with us not getting promoted

We are getting premier league parachute payments man

You think Fleetwood and Oxford get them?

So fuck?

I don’t get your point

They got Sunderland debt free ffs

But if folk are questioning where the parachute payments are and the money received in transfers, how else did we spend? I honestly think that none of us actually know the extent of the clubs financial problems towards the end of last season.

Haven’t you listened to anything the owner has said?

He wants the club costs and wage bill to be at a level that can be self sustained without the parachute payments. That puts the club on a sound financial footing for the future.

Nobody spends much in this league, we don’t need to either

Which is exactly the right thing to do. However on previous podcast he seemed to be suggesting they weren’t spending to go into the funds for next year.
Now it seems on the face of it that we have very little left.
Given we are going to take a big cut in revenue next year even if we get promoted what’s the plan? Self sufficiency with no parachute payments in the championship has rarely if ever led to success in recent years.

The main problem was dealt with, we are debt free. I’m not even really criticizing them I’m just saying I have no sympathy

As I say they, we have to get promoted

They have to make sure we do.

If we get promoted then fine I agree

If we don’t it’s an absolute disaster

Simple

And I don’t think I’m being controversial

I’m also not criticizing them, we’ve played 7 games, who knows where we will end up

The PR stuff has been class, just need to remember we have to get promoted

When we came in, we basically did a budget that said we’d have £10m in wages and we’d probably have to spend £4m tidying up contracts, the Jack Rodwells, etc. The reality is that we actually spent zero tidying up contracts but that money is worse than that because we haven’t been able to get rid of Ndong, Djilobodji and a couple of others. So we are way, way over that. That’s bad news.

We’ll see where we go with Papy and Ndong but the rest of the squad with the players that we’ve got, I think we’ve got the wage bill down from £20m odd, excluding those two, the existing squad is down to £11m. We’ve managed to halve it and the new squad has cost about £3m to put together.

That tells you the challenge that we have because in this league £3m-4m is a decent wage and a £5m-6m budget and you’re at the top. We’ve spent that on players, the £3m-4m, but we’ve still got £11m in the existing squad, although we don’t have £11m worth of value probably.

With League One revenues, even with 30,000 fans, that’s not sustainable. We’ve had one window, so over the next couple of windows we are going to have to try and improve that but the problem is that it has left us with almost no wiggle room.

January is going to be a challenge for us because of what we’ve got in our squad.
Makes sense.

We will find out, in april next year, then we will know just how bad it all was.

Do we have very little left? Genuine question because i took it as we can’t spend in jan because of the big earners still here not that we had no parachute money left.

I think they genuinely thought the 2 wankers + Catts / Oviedo and maybe one or two more would go - its obviously been a lot harder to shift them.

I’ll pass on what I heard and be shot for it but so be it.

From someone I trust within the club the impression of the new owners is that there changers with no real money.

They got the club for a song and hope to get out if league 1 before selling for a tidy sum whilst investing as little as possible.

People are right to point out the parachute payments and Donald is wrong to keep ignoring them as if they don’t exist when talking about our budget.

Personally I do feel they have brought in positivity to the club with the best move being jack Ross who has massively impressed me.

I said it at the time and I still feel we will come to regret not bringing in more loan signings to supplement squad but so be it, we have what we have and let’s see where we can get to.

Worst case scenario this is all just about getting into the championship to triple there money then so beit, there worse things could happen.

Thats where we disagree, it won’t be a disaster imo. If it takes another season to get up so be it

so where is all the money going to suddenly come from if we do get promoted and we still have the high earners hanging on? Current squad would need another overhaul, higher wages??

It read to me like it’s going to be a struggle to get players in, not sure why it would be if we still had money left?

Wage bill imo, costs too high until some of the high earners are shifted. Sure we’ll find out more tomorrow on podcast
