Following on Cricinfo at work and they say...

"Batting not great from Bairstow. His stumps have been the target, Ishant tries that first up, but then bowls one outside off. The ball holds its line, Bairstow follows it with his hands without getting close to it."

Him and Root have technical issues that are being rightly exploited by good seem attacks.

No he didn't

he got a good ball

this thread is f***ing embarassing

Have seen it on BBC now. Sorry, it's a 7/10 ball. One that looks better because of the movement.

He should be leaving it - on length if not line. And he should be playing later and, if he can't pick up the line because of the movement, play more inside it. Instead he's followed it with his hands unnecessarily and played a nothing shot with hard hands. Not good at all.

Root's was a much better ball imo. Root's technique letting him down a bit with that kind of dismissal - but a helluva ball, first up.

easy game this cricket stuff!

What on earth for? Scoring an ugly 30-odd not out at a 25 strike rate?

Hasn't he been saying this is what the team needs for about a decade?

I know

he then praised stoke for playing exactly the same innings in Southampton

strange man!

He's just bang out of form isn't he Bairstow. And I think if you're in the round pegs, round holes vein of thinking, there's an argument that if there were specialist batsman out there that are better - I suspect there aren't, which is the problem - then Bairstow and Buttler are the same peg for the same hole.

I'd back Bairstow to do better over the long-term, but he's bang out of form - and you usually get better balls when you're out of form too.

Yep. Half arsed prod in the corridor of uncertainty. Decent ball but not exactly a jaffa.

Root was all owa the shop, misread the line, playing across the line, fall over to off stump.

He's got 970 runs in ODI's this year, nobody playing with more confidence. I'd love to know what Ramps is telling him in the nets.

Me too. Have wanted him peddled since the Ashes tbh.

Fantastic bowling that

Why hasn’t he been playing

Bairstow should bat 7

That simple

the best technique I've seen from an England player this season was dom bess

he appears to have been retired from test match level, or is he injured?

Bairstow needs to be told to forget about gloves and get on with being a top order test match batsman which he is more than capable of being

His figures of with and without gloves are distorted by his first appearance on scene, he is a different player now. Having a poor run but so is Root and quietly Ben Stokes as well.

Give over. It's not even a contest: its Curran.
close run thing. Both outscored Bairstow and possibly root this summer.

Ali had time in county cricket and comes back and wins a Test for his bowling and now is helping to get a score in this.

god forbid root and Bairstow perform in the county game to get their techniques sorted
