Top class might be pushing it at the moment but it should be said this is his first series at home and our batsmen are continuing to fail to get him big runs to bowl at.
His ability with the bat I feel is a bit undervalued and his presence seems to have a good effect on Moeen.
I’d like us to persist as I see him as another all rounder capable of winning us games in the future.
rashid is not a red ball cricketer IMO and got picked off the back off one really good ball he bowled.
re your comment about stokes you could argue the fact that he managed to put on some runs and grind out time is a sign of development rather than a negative.
i find it quite odd that some days the commentators will say x y or z has to be allowed to play their natural game, then if that doesn't fit their argument or agenda then the player needs to be able to adapt to match situations. then when suddenly you have stokes strike rate dropping down it's a chance to criticise him.
Just playing devil’s advocate to be honest mate.
I actually agree with that argument about Stokes, it’s good to see him develop another string to his bow and he continues to contribute with bat and ball at vital times.
But he’s looked out of sorts since that 50 off 100 in the first ODI and Bob Willis made the point that he needs to get the balance right between blocking it and smacking it to be a well rounded batsman with a fully developed game and I think that’s his next step.
You can’t keep him out of games for long though, injured or not, and as a fan that’s great.
Absolutely and we’ve not done that
But we were a lot closer when we had the team that won in South Africa
I really have no idea why we moved away from that
Bairstow at 7, Ali at 8, Stokes 6, Root 4
They should be nailed on in those conditions
Buttler can absolutely bat 5 and he’s not arsed about keeping wicket
We need to find a top 3
Hardest thing to do. But let’s try people. Take is series by series.
I’m well aware of our faults and they’re massive but we do have a lot of strengths and we are just moving away from it and it annoys me
Muddled thinking
Malan could be a possibility at 3 abroad I reckon.
Rashid isn’t good evough and I’ve always thought that
I agree with most of that, especially the 6-8 positions.
I’d like to see Malan given (and take) another chance, whether that’s at 3 or not I don’t know. I’d really like to see Moeen make it there, especially given this winter’s likely conditions, as that would allow us to play the extra all rounder. Otherwise, possibly Bairstow, for the same reason.
Rashid I think is worth persisting with.
