CC :: Durham v Northamptonshire

Its a perfect time to appoint Colly as coach. He's obviously knackered as a player (could possibly continue with T20). I'm not desperate to get rid of Lewis as his tenure has been, on the whole, a successful one. But Colly is the better man to take us forward.

Its the same for both teams.

36-2.
Exactly and that why they got skittled out in less than two sessions. Counties are supposed to prepare a wicket that last for 4 days not a lottery where medium pace trundlers look unplayable. You where there today I was there yesterday it is clear even by Riverside standards that was a poor wicket. Christ it's not early April it he end of a hot dry summer and still the pitches are poor. It will cost us in the long run when it kills the confidence of another group of young Durham batsmen just like it has done in the past. Durham are an average side at the moment but they deserve to play on half decent pitches to at least give them a chance.

Lewis has been working on the team this year. Look who he has brought it.

Latham, Patel, Harte, Davies, Lees and Smith. All meant to improve the batting and all pretty ineffective apart from Latham (although I'd give Lees and Patel a pass because they haven't been here long enough to settle)

He also brought in Salisbury.

So he's trying, but that's a lot of players.

I don't think the academy has any batters in there waiting to come in. Our bowling division looks fine but the batting.

One area we know they could look at is pre-season preparation - which has been useless for a number of years.

Iam no fan of Lewis, he never inspired confidence as a captain or a coach to me. But I can't see everything being much better if he was replaced and there is no way he has ultimate power at Durham with Colly knocking about. I would hate it if we replaced him with an outsider who does not know how Durham works. They could give the job to Colly but he is just waiting from the call from Strauss but may have to wait till after the world cup next season.

Spot on.
I posted yesterday that in years gone by Harry Brind would have been been camping out on our doorstep with the state of our pitches this season.

This has been the best May/June/July in my lifetime (and I'm old enough to remember 1976) and the pitches still resemble the Riverside of the mid to late 90s.:eek:

Thought we had turned a corner based on a surprisingly impressive T20 campaign and a good CC win against Glamorgan. Looked like a strong platform was being made from which to make a serious push for promotion next season. Expected to defeat Northants possibly within 3 days. Abysmal batting performance on yet another poor Riverside wicket. This needs looking into as what’s the point of playing at home when there is no advantage in it whatsoever? It’s bad enough with the uncontested toss, but when the wicket is also undercooked it becomes nigh on impossible.

Doesn’t excuse the inept batting though. Wonder what would have happened if Duckett and Cobb had been playing? Northants would have probably been still batting now. Not that they would have needed the runs.

Agree. I stand by what I said months ago. Kileen, Breese, Thorp. Needs to change
It depends what your criteria is for the head coach. In paper the most experienced and successful coach at the club is John Windows but how would seasoned pros react to someone who never played county cricket running things. killer could do the job and ticks the boxes as he knows the club but Breeze and especially Thorp would be a pint in the dark

Axar Patel only around for 2 more games now being recalled by BCCI according to Marty on twitter.
