Batting order for 4th test?

Think it’s a f***ing joke personally.

Dropping a lad like Pope who’s been brought in to bat in a position he’s never batted, for a bloke who’s just scored a double hundred batting in his preferred position of 3...... Oh, but he won’t be batting where Pope batted, he’ll be batting in the position that Pope is most comfortable batting in.

Absolutely jumbled up thinking, scrambled brains all over and one of the most horrific examples I can ever remember of simply shoehorning people into the side in order to simply get them a game.

Was a perfect chance to get Ali at 3 to fill that gap, allow Root to bat in his preferred spot of 4 and then have Bairstow, Stokes and Buttler coming in after.
Jumbled thinking sums it up perfectly

It's a disgrace how they've treated Pope, he should be coming in at 6 tomorrow. OR playing for Surrey today. Instead he'll be carrying drinks.

I guess someone has to I suppose. When tough decisions need to be made regarding old guard. It's always easier dropping the new young lad

ali should be nowhere near number 3

Why not? That’s his best/preferred position, that’s where he bats for Worcestershire - where he scored a double hundred at Scarbados. What’s more, it would allow Root to bat at 4 and everyone else is fairly settled.

I just don't think he's very good

Curran in for Woakes? Bizarre to say the least

Injured. Again.

They've already shown ruthlessness to Curran though, who should have played in the last match ahead of Stokes. I doubt you agree with me on that but very hard on the lad. Nothing to do with the trial: cricketing reasons. Woakes and Curran had played better than Stokes in the series - nobody is an automatic pick. Would have been a good message, but there we are.

It's harsh on Pope too, but they are showing ruthlessness. It's not as harsh as it was dropping Curran, either way.

They should show it at the top too, but clearly they aren't confident in anyone coming in.

That said, reckon Jennings has one test left. Burns will be in at the Oval if he fails, home ground yaddayadda.

Personally, I think it's the strongest team. I would go Ali, Stokes, Buttler; but they've said they're going Stokes, Buttler, Ali. Other than that and Burns, I think they've got it right.

I can see the logic and I agree Root is a four. But I think Ali is a five myself. Let's see how it goes - they've said he's in at 7 anyway, which is odd.

He's looked out of his depth tbh. Harsher was dropping Curran, who looked comfortable.
