With Bancroft already announced for all formats next season and Lees secured for the end of this one, clearly the club are being pro-active with regards building the squad for next term.

Since the hysteria surrounding Bancroft has died down, it, in my opinion is a good move, I’m happy also that the club have moved to bring in someone that will be available for all formats. Whilst it gives the player the chance to stake a claim for international recall, it seems unlikely at this point that he will be invited back, however, it feels like a good fit for all parties.

Lees could be the future Durham captain, in all (or either) formats. I like the thought of him opening the batting with Bancroft and I also like the thought Steel can return to the position of 3, for me he has the temperament and technique to be a success anywhere from 1-5.

Aside from what we know, what are people’s thoughts on Rimmington? Personally I’d like to see him brought back, I think his availability has been his greatest attribute and whilst I feel like he could’ve performed better overall, I would like to see him return.

I guess the downside of that, would be that we could see a reduction in opportunities for young local bowlers, but clearly none of them can get/stay fit. Hence the loans of Dixon and Salisbury. We still have some really exciting talent on the payroll - but the likes of Carse, Weighell, McCarthy, etc need to stake their claim NOW.

Jack Burnham - will he be brought back? I’d like to think he can be given one last chance and that he’d repay the faith. It’s clear he’s got the talent to succeed, or atleast had it. I can only hope he can find it again. It would be like a new signing and he’s still my preferred option to bat 4 in the long term.

After all of that, is there anyone you’d like to see us bring in or atleast speak to? Obviously Kohli would be worth speaking to, so too Kagiso Rabada - but perhaps more realistically what do people feel is an area we need to strengthen?

Or perhaps you’ve heard something regarding recruitment? Rumour or otherwise?

Jacks done nothing of note at Hetton Lyons this year, averaging 21.

I’d really like to see the lad recover from his ban, with lessons learnt, but he looks a long way off county standard at the minute. Hopefully he still has a hunger to succeed.

I would like to see Rimmington and Burnham there in 2019. Salisbury was an excellent signing. Rescuing people's careers fits in with the 2 fingers up to the ECB for me. Everyone has a point to prove. I despair of the permanently injured young pace bowlers we have, their heads must be done in with the frustration.

Rimmington has a two year deal so I’d be very surprised if he isn’t back

I like all the recruits especially Lees as he's nearly a northerner.

I'd like it better if we have local lads and we do have a couple who may well be able to show us what they've got next year.
Potts, Trevaskis, Whitehead, Scott Steel and Coughlin (I think this year was too soon for him).

There have to be question marks around Pringle and Main who haven't done anything of note this year.

Carse - is he ever going to recover?

Unconvinced about Harding, Davies and Harte but at least Harte has a century.

Shame about Latham - one of those who look a very good player within seconds of watching him.

Of the new lads Lees I like as I said but I'd also include Salisbury in that and especially I like Whitehead because I think he's got 'it' and he's local too.

Well I' m afraid you're going to be disappointed judging by tomorrow's selection persisting with Colly averaging 11 with the bat and Rimmington 11 wkts at 51 apiece. See the likes of McCarthy leaving with selections like that.

Why? McCarthy is in the squad.

As for the others, it seems nobody can stay fit - who else would you want in that squad that is fit and isn’t already in there?

Yeah just seen it. Quite a remarkable squad selection. Not sure what dropping Josh Coughlin from the squad is intended to achieve

It's the final XI I'm concerned about.

Fair enough, we’ll see what happens in the next ten minutes or so.

Is he fit, first of all??

Secondly, I trust the judgement of the coaches and management if they deem he isn’t quite ready.

McCarthy plays.

What harm will it do? The 2nd xi have performed very well this season reaching finals. It's quite worrying if our coach believes they aren't ready when they have made finals

It could do a fuckload of harm actually, if he gets a load of tap and loses rhythm - psychologically it could spoil the end of his season and the start of next season. It could do a lot of bad for his development.

You don’t know a single thing about what our coach believes, it may be that the coach has him as a big part of his future plans but is managing him carefully so as not to have him shoot his bolt early.

Problem is, you detest Lewis so much you can’t think logically - so obviously Coughlin not getting a game is all Lewis’ fault because the kid is clearly the second coming of James Anderson

It's not just Coughlin, it's all the younger players. Would genuinely love to know when will be the right time, as some of them I watched earlier in the season mucked in well and we won the game.

The 1st XI are massively under achieving this season. Will Smith has only been dropped because of this Indian.
