Well, that and the Cardiff game have been reminiscent of Keegan's entertainers of the 90's in my opinionThe Mag/Chelsea game was probably the worst game of football I've witnessed for many a year. Only one team wanted to win. 11 men behind the ball playing hoofball when they were lucky enough to get a touch. Pure Rafa masterclass.![]()
TrueThe Mags have defended Benitez to such a degree they can no longer back down otherwise they'd have to admit they were wrong.
Any supporter, of any other club, would have criticised the team selection, tactics and result against Chelsea ...
... but the Mags have given away that privelege.
Anyone doing so would be shunned and asked to leave the Nation.
Eyes put out & banished to stumble for eternity through a barren wasteland beyond the city walls. Possibly Elswick. The Mags have defended Benitez to such a degree they can no longer back down otherwise they'd have to admit they were wrong.

So if that's grounds for dismissal can we assume Rafa is then? The letter would certainly suggest so.
Restricted Man City to 25 shots (with 11 on target). Fair play.
I know, no goals conceded...
And the irony is, Chelsea aren’t even that good. I bet they’ll got turned over more than once away from home by a non “top” teamThe Mag/Chelsea game was probably the worst game of football I've witnessed for many a year. I'm not dismissing point B. However we managed to sack and replace our manager several times and it kept us in the division. His numerous statements in press conferences, etc would suggest not.
The trigger isn't being pulled on Benitez because a) It would cost Ashley a decent amount to sack him and b) He's probably the best (realistic) chance we have of staying in the division.
In my opinion they should never have been relegated and he completely screwed it up.The Mags have defended Benitez to such a degree they can no longer back down otherwise they'd have to admit they were wrong.

with the squad you've got and the players you won't finish below the likes of Cardiff and Huddersfield etc Rafa knows it's easy streetHis numerous statements in press conferences, etc would suggest not.

yet they (the fans) needed him to stay on as it fits in with their "big club" ego. He splurged a shit load of cash relatively speaking and got them back up which was a given really (banking big money for winegum and sisserko.. thanks Mike)
then he spends more and gets to mid table .. now he is the messiah.
The premier league is full of rank average/poor teams and has been for a few years now. You have to be totally shocking to get relegated as we were and if not then a mid table finish isn't too difficult.
I think he has done and Ok job and nothing more, but the thing that is really killing the fans is the realisation that they are miles away from the top 6 teams they think they should be.
The local media are playing to the gallery now and he is literally Teflon. He has played a blinder

I take your point but most of those replacements were sacked the following season though and that strategy led to an unbalanced squad full of players that had been bought by different managers. It's been discussed on here whether you would have been better off getting relegated one of those seasons and you might not have fell as far as you currently are.

C) Ashley knows he can continue running the club as he is and there is nothing anyone can do about it. Rafa will likely get bored and go himself at some point, the fans will twist and protest but still pay him to watch and that f***ing MP will make herself look even more stupid every time she writes another letter
Got them all on a huge wallchart on his bedroom wall^ didn't even have to search for the stats![]()
As much as I'm not a lover of the bloke we could probably go back as far as Oneil and say we might have been better off going down then. Instead Short wanted to run before walking and adopted the DoF model. However at some point Benitez might actually become part of the problem. Training ground spats, public digs at the owner, negative tactics and still losing. This all ultimately has a bearing on results. Similar to Poyet. Poyet had some good ideas on how he wanted to play, but was restricted by cost cutting. He started publicly calling out Short and it was clear in the end he had no relationship with the players. He had to go for everyone's sake.I take your point but most of those replacements were sacked the following season though and that strategy led to an unbalanced squad full of players that had been bought by different managers. No I didn't watch it … From what I've heard that one was atrocious too. Rafa the genius. You didn't watch the Cardiff v scum game then now that was atrocious
