Magical cricketer when his confidence is up tbf. How we can't find a place for him in the test team is completely beyond me.

Mercurial ain't in it.

He's a much better player at home than away and took 6/67 last time we played these at Southampton. I'd give him a punt, Rashid is no better and not deemed up to holding down an end.

He's no punt like. He got to 100 wickets and 2000 runs quicker than Botham, Flintoff, Stokes and even Sobers irrc.

He's only ever had one bad tour really - Australia. He wasn't great with the ball in India but was probably the best batsman on that tour. He nearly always contributes.

They have to find a way to get him in - and when his confidence is up with the ball, he's very dangerous. Absolutely tore South Africa and India apart.

He's a better spinner than Rashid, certainly.

I don't know what the board (generally) expected with rashid. He's a leggie, will (should) take wickets with more spin and variations but he's not going to tie down an end. Even warne wasn't that economical, he wasn't expected to be since he took a sackful of wickets.

In recent times we're seeing more leggies in English cricket because they are proving to be really good in T20 and 50 over. spinners are generally but leggies even more so. However that doesn't translate automatically to 4 day 1st class or Test cricket - unless they're exceptional, like Murali, Warne etc.

Question is lads. Us or Hampshite. Who would you rather went down? Let's say Lancs or Worcester take one slot so you can't say both ;)

Hampshite and Yorkshire would be the dream ticket as far as I'm concerned but I reckon the former will be safe so Lancashire joining their rivals in Div 2 would be quite funny although possibly not for Mr Jennings.

Fingers crossed. Took 6-29 in second innings there plus the double century in same match shows us at least he's got a bit of form.

Just can't see us pick Ali and Rash in same test team at home.
Hampshire is normally decent for spinners though, I can see his bowling being a bonus to his batting when it comes to selection for this match

Ali always was a batsman who bowled a bit, top 6.
Absolutely. I think calling him a Test no 3 on the basis that is where he plays for his County is a bit much though.

I'd repeat what I said a couple of days ago. The England middle order is crowded, we have loads of free scoring batsmen but what we need a is a solid top order, ie 1, 2 and 3. I'd pick Ali but put him lower down the order.

If Worcs can keep that current attack and have Moeen available they're win games and stay clear. There's clear discontent between Gale and the players at Yorkshire so unless Gale steps down I fear relegation is inevitable. Hampshite are aptly named and will deservedly go down. Complimentary seating in the trapdoor stand for Graves and Bransgrove when they visit next season

Now I can join the rest of the counties and get offended by his celebration. Not that we'll be playing Somerset next season

They all look pissed off tbh. Not sure what the divisions are over but they should all be putting on a United front to get rid of Gale and Moxon. Get relegated if need be.

I've actually used up my holiday allowance to watch them in the CC over the coming weeks

Ah well I'll miss it when I'm de icing my car and shovelling snow in a few months time

Wonder if Gale has any more interviews with the local paper lined up, telling the world how he's "silenced his critics" after beating teams even shitter than us. Bet he was preparing one after last night.

Yes I'm just going to turn this thread into my own ranting thread if that's alright :p
Gale is a complete fraud

Not even a contest SP, Hampshire every day of the week for me, twice on Sundays too.
And 3 times for a Bank Holiday.
