The Mags and money...

They're actually pissed off because they can't accept they aren't big enough to be buying better player's, Ashley is a proper wanker I don't think many people would think otherwise but at 10th last year they have nowhere else to go, not without a man city set up.

See, this is it for me - I think you've hit the nail on the head. They think they're bigger/better than they are - but I just don't see how they can demand that if they're not even making money?

I'm sure there are countless threads on the Mags, Ashley and all that, so apologies, but can anyone clear a few things up for me?

Are Newcastle, as a club, actually in profit, or are they in debt?

If the club is making money, and he's not spending it, then I get moaning about that. But if they're in debt, or running at a loss, then can they seriously demand Ashley spend money?

And how much have they actually spent since Rafa was there? I know (unlike us) they've sold players at huge profit, which is usually when they start talking about net spend and all that, but even then they still need an owner to allow them to spend and not just keep those profits.

I find their whole demanding money a bit odd - getting MPs standing up demanding he invest or go or whatever - but if they're making vast sums then maybe that's why?

Paid £133m to buy nufc from hall/shepherd without allegedly doing due diligence.
He has a loan on their books of over £100m iirc.
Apart from the Chship season, they had made profits six seasons running iirc thanks to outstanding salesmanship in getting the likes of 30m for the crock that is Andy Carroll, 30m for the crock of shit that is Sisserker, and 17m for "don't sell Cabaye, Johann Cabaye"...plus a good few others.
Despite him being a paper billionaire, he is making the mags live within their means which is pissing them off.
Imagine if Short had made us live within our means ?

You'd have went bust years ago?

They don't make money because the owner runs it badly though. They're £140m in debt because they've been relegated twice. In real terms their commercial income has somehow decreased under Ashley in the period of unprecedented football growth.

NUFC has basically contracted financially when compared to the other teams in the league on his watch.

Probably more to do with the area than Mike Ashley being incompetent.

Before the recession, you mean?

Was the recession just restricted to the North East of England? Seems unfair.

Good job you're here though, actively supporting the North East losing out on jobs to support that trend as well. Calling us deluded for even attempting to bring jobs to the North East.

I think that Ashley just likes a bargain and refuses to get drawn into the ridiculous prices. He demands that people achieve return for minimum outlay.
They have signed the keeper who seems to be very good for next to nowt, got Kenedy who did well for them on loan for a loan fee and replaced Merino who did nowt with Ki as back up. Ashley will rightly be saying, why should I allow you to spend 25million on another striker when you already have 13million Mitrovic, 12 million Gayle and 5 million Joselu, shift a bit of that and then move. I would say thats good business.
They now need to get rid of some deadwood to get the money to spend on a striker. I think its good management and plenty of other clubs should look at them and follow suit. All this bluff and bluster and petitions and dummy spitting is hilarious and pathetic. They are 12 -15 goal a season striker away from another mid table finish.

I think they’re doing well in the market this summer without splashing huge amounts to cash

The keeper did very well them and looks a steal at £4m. Kennedy did well and they’ve got him on loan for another year. Ki is a decent signing on a free, and that Swiss lad is highly recommended and is costing around £3m

Fans these days though just want huge amounts spent

They were 140 odd million in debt with a 120 million odd turnover and 112 million wage bill in their last accounts.

Edit: regarding wage bill. They say the actual wage bill was 80 million but included promotion bonuses so this 112 is an Ashley lie/will be much lower last season, assuming of course none of those players wages increased following promotion, and none of them got a bonus for avoiding relegation

Ashley bought them for £90 million (I think) and there’s another £130-140 million in loans that he’s provided so he’s into them for nearly 1/4 of a billion.

With the exception of Glenn Murray and historically Defoe for a few seasons at your place they'd all cost an absolute fortune. You need to spend at least £25m in attempting to get a striker that can regularly get you that amount of goals.

EDIT - Due to his age, possibly add Vardy to the list although even though he is getting on you're still looking at paying over £40m for him.

Absolutely rattled

No, but when we came out of recession the world changed.

You don't seem to grasp that not everything is as it was before.

Most sane newcastle fans just want investment in certain areas of the team, the thing that pisses us off is that he seems to ignore that and do nothing.his hand only goes into his pocket when he know we are in danger..

We need a striker of quality,,Mitro has had it, Gayle seems to hawked around at the moment , its the dragging of their feet on deals, just get shot of Mitro ffs .

Rafa wanted a French striker but we wouldnt pay the money as the Mitro deal has stalled...its not that we want £50m signings hell forbid, just a few footballers from the middle shelf and not the bottom to steady the ship, most fans will snap ya hand off for same position again.

i agree..if we were in their position i would rather make do with what we have, nobody is going to crack the top 6...a couple of clubs are going to pay a heavy price for this summer's spending, why not sit tight for another season, iam sure FMA would spend in january if its not going well...

Matchday income is fairly stable (the area). Commercial is way down, which probably has more to do with the free SD advertising and the rubbish football.

Those in charge somehow allowed a situation a top 10 earning club (despite the contraction) had the 16th highest wage bill in the PL. It's not a big margin for error. They duly finished 18th that season and lost way more cash going down in the 1st year of a record TV deal.

Yes, the world changed. Everyone suffered in the recession. It's not exclusively linked to Newcastle United's commercial revenue.

In all of this Ashley could just walk away, mothball the team, what fun is the fucker getting out of it.I personally understand we seem skint but ive got no idea how.

Most fans dont.

RECESSION!

He could put the club up for sale for the rumoured £280m he has put in with a complete clean break and he'd have any number of suitors imo.
