I'm sure there are countless threads on the Mags, Ashley and all that, so apologies, but can anyone clear a few things up for me?

Are Newcastle, as a club, actually in profit, or are they in debt?

If the club is making money, and he's not spending it, then I get moaning about that. But if they're in debt, or running at a loss, then can they seriously demand Ashley spend money?

And how much have they actually spent since Rafa was there? I know (unlike us) they've sold players at huge profit, which is usually when they start talking about net spend and all that, but even then they still need an owner to allow them to spend and not just keep those profits.

I find their whole demanding money a bit odd - getting MPs standing up demanding he invest or go or whatever - but if they're making vast sums then maybe that's why?
 

There record transfer fee is £17m for Micheal Owen still. Huddersfield have spent £17.5m on a player this year, I can see why they’re fans are a little frustrated.
 
Sustainable debt where they live within their means paying it. Its set up so they dont loose money, and ashley puts back in what they earn towards the team. Not alot to spend this season unless they sell mitrovic and even then it will only be like for like replacement.

They were 140 odd million in debt with a 120 million odd turnover and 112 million wage bill in their last accounts.

Edit: regarding wage bill. They say the actual wage bill was 80 million but included promotion bonuses so this 112 is an Ashley lie/will be much lower last season, assuming of course none of those players wages increased following promotion, and none of them got a bonus for avoiding relegation :confused:

I think we all need to give Newcastle a bit more respect. After all they are a huge club, they nearly won the league in 1996, they bid for Wayne Rooney!!

They are the only club in Europe that sell out. They haven't beaten Sunderland for nearly 10 years but who does these days. A truly tremendous club.

I dont get the obsession with breaking records for the sake of breaking records and the way. Infairness when you paid 17mil for Owen however long it was it was highly likely that 17mil would get you a good player (not in Owens case) now, well 17 mil wouldnt get you Mitro if reports are to be correct.
 
sports direct profits are down and he has many issues in his company was in the evening standard a few weeks back, sports direct has shares in goals.com i think it is, share price is down, house of fraser and debenhams also, both are not in a good state either now, so maybe he is thinking that he does not want to splash out at the moment, who could blame him

The same argument can be said about the hundreds of new digital TV channels. Shame that they're all dogshit.

So is it any surprise that he wants them to sell before they buy?

They're essentially saying spend your own money, or go, so they can allow someone else to buy the club and pour their own money in - whoever that is?
 
They're actually pissed off because they can't accept they aren't big enough to be buying better player's, Ashley is a proper wanker I don't think many people would think otherwise but at 10th last year they have nowhere else to go, not without a man city set up.
