No quibbles from me. He made Kohli look like a mug and assuming the dry summer impacts seam and swing we will need everything in our locker on the spin and fast bowling front.

Absolute nonsense

Absolute joke. Should be told to go and play against Lancs on Sunday then against Worcester mid August and take some wickets. Then and only then should he be considered for the last two Tests. Sends a poor message on the county game. I was in the "benefit of the doubt" "at least he's an asset in the white ball stuff" camp but not so sure now. Leaning towards the fuck off out of the club camp tbh.

If his Yorkshire contract doesn't allow for a couple of red ball games I wouldn't be against him playing for someone else in the CC to prove himself.

Was always in favour as Rashid as our number 1 spinner. But this is just another laughable England decision when he's decided to not play red ball cricket.

Just makes a mockery of county cricket, especially as the ECB brought in this whole toss thing to help our spinners. They are basically saying to the rest of them to give up as we'll just pick people who perform for us in ODI's.

Rory Burns may as well not bother trying to force his way in as an opener. As they'll more likely bring Hales back or try Roy.

Anyway I hope he does well, if he gets the nod. I like leggies.

The lad has been dicked around by captains ecb etc. Ffs he hasn't even played a test match at home.

Can anyone blame him for being selfish for looking after himself by making himself a white ball specialist.

Now we are begging him to play and he says okay.

Why the fuck are we giving him shit?

Unless all you distracters also had a go at Buttler and Hales for doing the same. Youse are being racist

 eh? Ne he f***ing hasn't. He was poor, and particularly weak mentally.

Rory Burns isn't a good a player as jennings from what I have seen, or gubbins

You don't just pick the highest run scorer in 1 particular year you know

I'm sorry like but he has. Never been shown true love till now. Leggies need a arm round the shoulder. He never had proper fields, in and out of side. Never a true run in side. They all add up.

Not playing a home test should tell you all you need to know about our treatment of him.

Weak you say? How so? Maybe our treatment made him feel insecure?

Nonsense, he set a lot of his own fields actually.

Treatment? He's a f***ing international cricketer ffs.

Nah mate don't agree.

I see you have side stepped the issue of him never playing a test at home. Can you explain that without the usual get out of pitch conditions?

If we treat him as our premier spinner and played him for a straight couple of years. Maybe he would have come on sooner.

I started the thread and put that in my first post :)

I have no idea about Rory Burns but he was opening with Cook for the lions. So imagine they are having a look at him as the next cab off the rank.

But hopefully Keats does well

Yeah sorry if that came off a bit strong

Just seen a lot of Surrey fans on twitter saying why isn't he in, same old ECB that was all

he has a chance for sure

All you put was that he'd do well at home against aussies or saffas. You haven't explained away why Rash has yet to play a test match in England.

I'm still waiting on that rebutal from you. Explianing your billitling of my grievance towards the ecb's mishandling of Rash.

Because we are unbeaten in years at home without him.

Short term thinking that like. Indicitive of old fuddy duddy stick in the muds at the ecb. Fluffling pillows at home whilst papering over the cracks to becoming a all round top test team. One of which has a full time mystery spinner. All modern top teams have them.

In my opinion of course. If we had kept him in the team full time for two to three years. We would have reaped the benefit of him ripening years ago. Yes he used to be expensive and had a bad ball in him every over. But you can't expect someone to really feel part of the setup when they get dropped every summer. Thus having to prove himself every time he plays worrying about his place. Where he should have been a fixture and should worrying about getting certain batsmen out.

There is absolutely nothing fuddy duddy about our selection policy

Are you a kid? You debate like one. Wise the fuck up youngun. Talking to you is like pulling teeth.

You were referring to the time when we're unbeaten. Playing quicks or a safe spinner rather than a genuine leggie. Playing it safe to guarantee maximum fluffage of the team. The epitome of fuddy duddy thinking.

You obviously think being flat track bullies at home is better than being a well rounded team that can play on all surfaces and countries.

Are you mental?

Our selection policy has been crazy, we’ve picked players from all owa the shop

What the fuck are you talking about?

Typical ecb....aye having the most attacking lineup in our history

Not sure what I think about this ….. given my main interest is red ball cricket I probably just think this a drain on resources.

Sir Ian Botham believes that the criticism of Adil Rashid’s inclusion in England’s Test squad is “unnecessary” and says that he has little sympathy with Yorkshire.

He criticised Michael Vaughan for his comments about Rashid and said that Durham, where he is chairman, would try to sign the leg spinner.

aye, personally i think england, rashid, botham are all in the wrong and if he wants to play red ball cricket all of a sudden because he has another shot at test cricket he should go cap in hand to yorkshire on his knees and beg forgiveness or better still lie in the bed he has made and die on his sword and as many more daft cliches as anyone else can think of to add.

Suppose it’s no surprise that Botham, who was so outspoken and somewhat of an outcast (meant in the most positive way) during his playing days, would continue to be like that in his role of chairman.

If Rashid wants to resurrect his career, I have no qualms whatsoever about him doing it with us. In the same way that Plunkett needed a clean break and prospered under Gillespie at Yorkshire - I’d be willing to see us take a punt on Rashid.

I’d be very surprised however if he would want to come here, or if we could afford to compete with the likes of Surrey or Nottinghamshire for his signature.

If however, he merely wishes to continue to be indulged by only having to play white ball cricket, he can foxtrot oscar, the small resources we have should be spent on cricketers who want to do their best for Durham all summer long in every format. For what it’s worth, if we’re going to sign anybody to a short term, lucrative white ball contract, the club should do everything they can to get Tahir back.

Botham’s quotes:

"We will definitely talk to him," Botham said. "Of course we will.

"It is very competitive out there and everyone wants to get out of the second division. We won't do it this year but we'll do it next year with the way we are going and the way we are restructuring. We need to make it a side that people like Adil Rashid will look at and say 'it is only up the road and I can see where they are going and I would happily go there'.

"It is very hard to have much sympathy for Yorkshire. I have lost players - we have lost five key players at Durham - that have been poached around the north. I say poached and I stick by it.

"I have seen some pretty ridiculous stuff written over the last couple of days and I am very much on Adil's side."

Can’t disagree with any of that, especially the bit about our players having been poached. Stoneman, Borthwick, Jennings, Coughlin and Hart an absolute certainty. Onions not so much.

apparently the england test side have made it known officially that you must play red ball cricket, or at least have a red ball contract, if you want to be selected for test cricket.

this is after saying they're recalling rashid off the back of some white ball cricket, and having done the same with buttler.

they have lost all their credibility, what little they had left.

and it is very sad that i'm at the point of calling england 'them' and not 'us'
