Polis Costs

There should be more detail to this like, such as number of officers at each game and what facilities used by the Police so you can get a better idea as to the reasons why your bill was higher than ours. Looks mental on the face of it.

That Celtic game, how much were tickets and what was the attendance? You’re looking at the policing swallowing up about 1/3 - 1/2 of the total gate receipts which makes it an awful choice.

We have a home friendly every year against middling European opposition and it would be interesting to see what the costs are for those compared to your bill for Celtic.

The thing with that Celtic game is absolutely everybody knew how it would go.

Sunderland £347k
Newcastle £167k

Newcastle had 22 home games including a friendly, Sunderland had 24 including the Celtic game. Not sure how those numbers even work.

More worrying is at the end of the article where it says for the 9 Premier League and Championship clubs in London the cost came to £442k

Breakdown of matches for last season for both clubs:

Football costs - 530/18 - Disclosure Log - Other - Northumbria Police

Biggest costs were Middlesbrough £55,413.14 and Celtic £30,629.93.

Also increased match costs on 23rd Dec, New Year and Easter Monday, possibly due to coppers being on a higher wage for those days?

Based on those and without looking at exceptions for the mags that would have us pretty close. Nearly £100k on a friendly and the boro!? Mad

£16583 to police Newcastle vs Luton which attracted 47000 which 7400 were away fans. When Pools were in ££ bother earlier in the year, some of the police costs were asked for and revealed. It cost Pools £2714 to police the Gateshead league game on New Years Day, attendance of 3200 with approx 400 away fans. In a nutshell thats 85p per spectator for police. Newcastle vs Luton attended by 43000 more is costing 35p per spectator. I very much doubt it's the home office pricing these up unless Dianne Abbott is in charge.

lesson learned dont ever play celtic or rangers ever again, anybody with half a brain/bain should know they will give 200% to beat any english team even ifn pre-season friendlies, players trying to get fit have fuck all chance, why is there alway's a scottish connection to our demise...their team's smash us while their manager's destroy us,mayhem in the town and nice big bill at the end...FFS

The thing with that Celtic game is absolutely everybody knew how it would go.

We love a crap friendly us mind! Don't want to criticise the new regime but after a friendly no one wanted against Celtic I'm not sure why this season we've been so desperate to get a friendly with Middlesbrough. Get to go there, to a shit hole, to have the piss ripped out of us by a bunch of wankers, probably get beaten by the fuckers again and it'll generally be an awful atmosphere. Just can't see the reasoning, as I couldn't when they'd initially wanted it at the SoL. Can't imagine much demand for it at all and yet they seemed to think it'd raise good money for the club, just can't see it myself

How on earth can Newcastle vs Burnley, Swansea, West Brom and Huddersfield only cost £2000 more to police than Hartlepool vs Gateshead which attracted 3200 fans, basically 47000 less than the Newcastle games. Something doesn't add up. Always favouritism towards them up the road. The Sunderland policing costs needs attention

The costs to the club has to be part of this bit

"Under current rules, clubs are only obliged to pay for policing in the stadium and on their land, leading to the taxpayer picking up most of the bill."

So if the taxpayer and not the club pay for police when the police aren't on land owned by the club, surely our increased costs are due to the club actually owning a lot of our own land around the stadium, where as Newcastle basically don't own their stadium and are in the middle of a city centre

That would also explain why London clubs where most of the police are away from the grounda in local streets paid nothing as well

Next season should be interesting. Costs should drop dramatically. Lots of games in Leagues One and Two don't even bother with policing and rely on stewards only so any police we have next season should be minimal.

Can't see Sunderland v Fleetwood etc being a powder keg fixture.

We are being fundamentally ripped off there like. ‘The home office’ set the figures ? What would the rationale behind charging us more be ? That stinks to high heaven - someone on Twitter tell SD.
