Spenny 1sts down at Richmond, another victim no doubt in our march towards promotion. A cobbled together 2nd XI at home to East Cowton 2nds (wherever that is).

Brandon v Durham Academy currently in the Riggs Bowl in the T20.

Music and BBQ on, free entry.

Brandon 70-2 (10 overs) so far.

Brandon made 156-3.

Following tonight’s Banks T20 Quarter Finals the 4️⃣ teams in finals day are; Brandon, Chester le Street, South Northumberland and Benwell Hill. Further details to follow ahead of finals day 2018☄️ #NEPL

Hylton 1st beat Bolton 1sts

Bolton 96 all out. D batty 4 wickets and the pro 4 Hussain.

Hylton 97/5. Nice welcome points for the Hylton lads.

Spenny 1sts lost for the first time this year. Our 2nds won for the first time this year. I played my first game for the 1sts this year, having played solely 2nds. If anyone needs me, I'll be the one jumping off the Wear Bridge.

CLS 2nds defeated Brandon 2s at Brandon by 10 wickets.

Parnaby scored a pretty amazing 98, where he just T'd off from ball one and smashed 6's and 4's at will. I was amazed when I found out that he'd batted for 53 balls because it seemed like about 20. However only one other lad came to the party batting wise and the Brandon innings ended on 216, which TBF was still a competitive score. In reply CLS batted supremely well and Cranston scored a ton, ably supported by Ollie Barrett (DCB lad) and knocked the runs off with 15 overs to spare.

Outfield was like lightening but for the CLS innings the wicket was pretty dead.

Good win for a very young CLS side (half the side is 16 or under) who lie third in the table.

Nice setup at Brandon. A very well appointed ground with blazing sunshine for a lot of the game. Nice lads as well. Enjoyable afternoon in the sun - well played both teams.

It was shame for the lad and what a soft dismissal in the end. Belts the ball all over the field for 98 and simply lobbed one back to the spinner for a C & B. The only other time I've seen an innings like it was watching AJ Tye for CLS do this sort of thing regularly and the lad Pinnington (?) for Newcastle CC who bats similarly.

Scorecard -

Paul Coughlin played as a batsman today for Eppleton - mustn't be any club sides in Nottinghamshire that would take him.

Which is no way a dig, as I know in recent years players with Brandon connections - Allenby and Turner were always preferred by their counties to play club cricket locally rather than coming 'home' so to speak.

Relatively young Brandon side too and in fairness what impressed me most was young Elliott batting at 3 for 92 balls in making 16 - the kid is still an U15 but has a heart like a lion and a very good temperament for such a youngster. The fact Parnaby scored so freely (and Crampton after that), meant he could take his time and I really hope to see him continue there for a long time to come.

Yes I was talking to one or two Brandon people and I said that forget the runs but batting for so many balls was like runs in the bag. Teams have a choice about whether to bring these lads in and accept that they arent a Parnaby and itll take time for them to settle in with some poor days as well as one or two good days but the more involved they are the better. The lads issue is that he isnt strong enough to go around belting 4's and 6's but as we know that strength will come as he gets older, but I did pick the lad out as one to watch.

In fairness the CLS youngsters were 16, 16, 15, 14 and 13 (going on 14) and the normal wickie who has a back injury ATM is just 16. The good thing about the group is that they all get on well together and all have differing skills. Theyve all played virtually all season so thats not a bad effort considering who they have beaten this season and where they are in the table. All of them have been at or are still at the DCB.

Back at Brandon on Monday.

Much stronger without you in :-)

Our 2s play Chester in the Banks tomorrow after a good win against Felling today. Unfortunately we won't have a full side out else I'd fancy us.
