Possibly, although that also made me keep a close eye on them when they were a league below us. I fancied a local derby, but unfortunately they never turned their financial strength into a proper promotion push.
He was probably just getting started at eastleigh. He's brought them on loads and invested heavily at that level. Saw the opportunity of getting Sunderland on the cheap as being too good a chance to miss out on.

Not really. He was there for 6 years spending the last 4 years in the National League. For all his investment, they've had one promotion in that time. In the last two years, they've had five managers and finished mid-table, underperforming based on the money they spent.

Sunderland is too good a chance to pass up, if you have the money to throw away in the short term, but he doesn't have that. My main reasons for thinking he's naive is that he's brought in a manager who doesn't know the English league, but will be expected to hit the ground running, and that he's dependant on getting the going rate from player sales and not having to pay up contracts, despite the players and other clubs having all the bargaining power.

Why would his time at Eastleigh make him out of his depth?
Because if he couldn't do better with Eastleigh, he's not ready for the challenges of Sunderland.

Maybe, although I'm not sure why a successful businessman would throw away his money on a club somebody else owns the majority of, without at least having a solid plan of how he was getting it back.

As a fan of another club, I think he's naive and his time at Eastleigh makes me think he's way out of his depth...

I've had worries along the same lines as well, and I'm desperate to be proved wrong. Prime example here - the mess he's in already on Twitter.

I spent my teenage years in Fareham and was a frequent visitor to Fratton. Hope you come up with us.

If/when we return to the premier league, he will need to try to bring in elite players. Building a squad capable of competing while sticking to his principles of exposing agents and player motivations could wind up disastrous. We might find it even more difficult than ever to attract the quality we need. More than the other 19 teams who obsequiously ride the gravy train.

I’d say following the Burnley example would be a natural progression of what he’s doing atm.

And you're qualified to make that assessment, based on what? I'm curious....
Oh, nothing at all apart from a passing interest in his time at Eastleigh and what he's doing at Sunderland. I'd say that not meeting your goals with a smaller club that was in less turmoil and required less capital would be commonly regarded as a reason for not being ready for Sunderland, but it is just a semi-informed opinion.

Are you trying to say you crave me? I'm flattered.

Cheers, I really hope you go up as well, you don't deserve to be stuck in League One for any more than a victory lap.

As a Mag I loved him saying he is looking forward to away games and getting amongst the fans!
A certain bloke from up the road tried all that, buying the Bigg market a drink, supping beer on the terraces, then spitting his dummy out when it all went wrong!
He is similar to Ashley in so many ways, clearly a tough negotiator who what’s to run SAFC at a profit with a tough stance on wages and transfers
Not sure if that is good or bad!

I have to agree on some points. It's all very nice being in touch with the fans, when you are winning!
You see it on here every week, we win and we are brilliant, we get beat and everybody is rubbish and sack the board!

Local dialect, mate, Charver is the local word for a chav ;)

Are admiring Stewart Donald and his openness about the situation at Sunderland, he’s stood up to agents and players, he’s basically puffed his chest out and spoke on behalf of the fans. The mess that the previous regime left the club is shocking, it’s just pure negligence and disgraceful on how they ran the club.

People are taking note of us now and are looking at their own clubs to follow example, it’s refreshing to see and I’m over the moon we have a regime in who look organised and actually give a fuck about us and the club.
Realising a situation and puffing your chest out in defiance doesn't necessarily solve the problem though does it, what you want to do and what you can do are often miles apart.

Ha ha, he already addressed this last night, says he knows if we get beat he will get abuse.
