Anthony Bourdain DNYT

One of the few celebrity deaths that has shocked me. I picked up A Bone in the Throat without knowing who he was then read Kitchen Confidential and A Cook's Tour and saw some of his TV stuff. He was one of the few food presenters/journalists that was on my wave length. Not hipster or trendy or all about classical technique just good food made with care. He obviously had his problems with his heroin addiction and there was always an undercurrent to his other stuff. I had A Cook's Tour on my list with Amazon Prime and just started watching it today. It's a brilliant food programme.

Similar for me. I was given Kitchen Confidential and A Cook's Tour as a birthday present and loved both...

His books laid it bare. He went through some rough times.

He gave a recent interview saying that with his girlfriend Asia Argento he'd found true happiness. She was photographed in Rome with another bloke on Monday.

Which is one reason why I went ballistic when Paws posted a photo on the Trump thread mocking Bourdain this afternoon. Pleased to say it earned him a long ban.

I feel wrong ‘liking’ this but he deserved a ban for that.
 
That’s horrible like. I’m pissed as fuck right now, but if anybody on here is feeling suicidal, please think of your family and kids etc. There’s no options in death, please talk to your loved ones. RIP

I know Joe Rogan was a big fan.....

Yeah, I picked up A Bone in the Throat at a second hand book shop somewhere, which introduced me to him. It's the kind of find which makes me appreciate being able to browse through physical copies of stuff rather than have recommendations driven by digital marketing.

Yeah, whilst digital music makes artists more available, I always get the feeling that e-books make it more difficult for authors to find new readers.

I agree. I saw the post and it was utterly shameful.

A man who is universally liked and respected around the world found himself so depressed and unhappy that he took his own life and someone's first thought was to post a picture crowing over his death to score a point in an internet forum.

Paws is gone for 74 days but it should be a lot longer.

Oddly enough, the very first ebook I read was Anthony Bourdain's Medium Raw.

(The chapter about St Barths - and the crap rich people will eat as long as it's expensive - still stands as one of the best exposes of the world we live in.)

He's the one poster on this forum I can think of that has no redeeming feature whatsoever. He's just full of loathing, bile, hatred and idiocy.

No doubt particularly when images are plastered all over the media for all to see.
Seem to recall even someone as chirpy as Owen Wilson tried to off himself solely due to seeing pics of Kate Hudson with her new shag.

To be honest I think Paws went beyond trolling. What he did was the act of someone with no concept of empathy or compassion. It was the act of a sociopath at best and a psychopath at worst.

If anyone on here knows who Paws is in real life then they really should be advising him to seek the help of a mental health specialist. What he did was beyond the bounds of normal or acceptable behaviour.

Very sad. Each to their own but a woman could never get me so low. Might be more a reflection on myself mind in terms of how deep I'd get with someone. Or I'm simply selfish. Dunno.

Or he knows its out of order and knew it would get a rise. Not taking away from how out of order mocking suicide is mind, just saying I doubt the knacker really thinks that way in the real world. I hope anyway.
