Barry McCarthy was 12th man on Sunday whilst we fielded a loanee from Essex's 2nd XI who conceded the most runs in Durham 1 day history on Sunday.

Brydon Carse is also playing 2nd XI at the moment which is good to see.

J Coughlin - 17 overs, 7 maidens, 30 runs, 1 wicket, 0 wides, 0 no balls................
 
The 50 over games seem the best format to blood the young lads in so seems daft. Once we had no way of progressing it in that tournament we should have sacked off the Dixon and played a couple of the young players. Now we've got 2 loanees in the squad for a dead rubber

It's Gavin Main that makes me wonder. He seems to have been around for ages and once in a blue moon actually plays. First Class debut in 2014 and played 1 match last year I think.

That's the bowling stats for the 50 Over game on Monday mind. I went to watch it for a couple of hours and soon decided that watching Rachel Riley on Countdown might be a better option.

Might well be :)

But Main bowled, he's on contract so why isn't he being considered ahead of this loanee. I can only think he doesn't have the confidence of the coaches, 4 years after his 1st class debut.

From what I've seen of Main in the 2nds and his occasional appearance for the First Team sadly I really cant see him making the grade....would love him to prove me wrong mind.

Yeh, 23 year old, been on a development contract for 4 years. Currently on a full-time degree course, I believe.

Christ, I think you hate Lewis more than I hate Graves.

Seriously, look at our bowling reserves and ask yourself honestly if getting in a loanee is a bad decision.......

Should any of the current skeleton squad get injured, I don't believe we have anyone ready to step into the breach, unfortunately.

I'm not agreeing with this loanee business, fuckin pathetic to see us doing so and harming development of our own players. The club will be moaning on when folk leave the club. I'd much rather the academy lads were given development chances good enough or not, we'll never know whilst we're developing players from other clubs instead.

We've got a lad playing against England this weekend in a one day international, nobody has seen him yet............ Signed a lad from Somerset, not played yet.

Dead rubber game tomorrow and we have 2 loanee's in the squad, embarrassing for the club.

Rushworth
Rimmington
Weighell
McCarthy (as mentioned)
Potts (still injured/not Match fit?)
Carse (playing as a batsman, still not fit)
Wood (away with England)

Coughlin - I'd like to see what he can do, but after making two/three squads and not being picked, maybe the coaches and selectors' view is that he's not quite ready? Not like he's skittling Second XI sides is it?

Main - mentioned above by others, but the times I've seen him, he looks absolute dross to be honest.

So basically, if Rushworth, Rimmington, Weighell and McCarthy play against Derbyshire this weekend, that only leaves Coughlin as a realistic and viable replacement. With three Championship games in a row coming up, it stands to reason that we need cover incase we pick up injuries. Our recent record of bowlers and their fitness means we need more backup than we currently have.

As for playing two loanees in a dead rubber.....? Absolute master stroke. Keeps our own contracted players out of harms way. I hope Rushworth and Rimmington are in cotton wool with their feet up, orange juice in hand, keeping themselves rested for Saturday.

Look, we get that you can't stand Lewis, but the decision to get in a loanee at this moment is in my view absolutely necessary.
