Honestly and truly, we need a clear out as well, otherwise every year we will be in a fight to avoid relegation, winning a few games a season just to stay up and flirting with the bottom three, i have said before that if it was a choice between winning a trophy and staying up, i would choose a trophy everytime and accept relegation, i once had the same argument with John Anderson and he couldn't believe my point because he seems to think that the most important thing is staying in the Premiership. It isn't as i think Sunderland will prove this season with a bouyant club and atmosphere where you will win more games than you lose, sometimes people don't understand it from a fans point of view.Especially ex players whose goal was to get as much cash as possible.

totally agree. football at the micro level is about the match experience and id rather watch sunderland beat accrington stanley than lose to man city.

The last ten years had a few highs - wembley, Ki, 6 in a row, great escape, 3-2 v chelsea and Chopra v Spurs. But generally it was dirge - attrition football hoping to nick 9 or 10 wins a year. No point and no hope

What has followed? Nothing at the moment, we are a league 1 team with new owners. So far they have came in and said the right things and hopefully they'll do the right things. A double relegation is never a good thing.

So you would rather things stayed as they were? It has brought/forced change, which was long overdue.

It has brought new owners, it has cleared out a lot of the dead-wood (with more to come).

It has brought a new appetite for fans to get back on-board.

It has made people believe again. Time will tell how it goes, but it gives us hope!

I'd rather have got new owners and not been relegated. I understand the point you're making mate.

Yes double relegation is the way forward, it's the best thing that has happened to your club.Sometimes you have to reach rock bottom to go forward. If relegation hadn't happened none of the aftermath would have either, you would be celebrating staying up having escaped the worst position for years and would be looking forward with Ellis and the crew. Can't wait til we are relegated as well.

Fair point, 12 months and the derby will be back, cant wait.

New owners without a drop to league 1 would have simply meant another year of struggle imho. This way we get to completely rebuild the club from top to bottom, its been needed for years and its finally happen. Seen more decisive action and joined up thinking in the last 2 weeks than we have in the last 7 years.

I think unfortunately we were in a situation where we were not quite appealing enough to new owners with what Short wanted for the club before we went to L1. Relegation is an awful thing, but in this circumstance I feel it was the best thing that could have happened.

May well bring the good times back...or it could go horribly wrong of course!

Last 7 years - more like the last 45 !!

Not often you get a mag talking sense on here, but this is spot on.

Nowt wrong with constant mid table if you you see a bit of quality and the odd cup run now and then, but does anyone really enjoy watching constant relegation battles and dire football in the premiership. Far better to bounce around between Premiership and Championship and have a bit of excitement. Don’t mind the odd survival, but doing it for 6 years does wear you down.

That's twice you have agreed with me , people will talk....

But we’ve been told by many on here you have steady mid table squad, which is it, mid table or relegation battle?

same thing. everyone outside the top 6 starts the season looking over their shoulder. Everton and Leicester both had worries at one stage or another last season. 10 points covered 9th down to 17th

for me relegation battle, even though we finished tenth, it was a relegation battle all season, at Christmas i thought we were gone. As i keep saying, we are always one move away from a crisis.Just watch when Rafa leaves as inevitably will happen some day.

Everton and Leicester do not have squads that are relegation fodder, that’s the difference.

I agree with you, you are in the minority of mags though. The 10th place finish was as a false as ours under Bruce.

How many we sold now 19,000?

It was quoted at 18,170 yesterday but demand still appears to be high so I think it will get there. We should expect spikes on weekends and then a last minute surge before the DD deadline comes down on June 22nd.

As a whole I think we will pass 20,000. A good summer in the transfer window and enthusiasm will take more people off the fence.

Of course it was, as we will find out next season when we struggle at the start again, but we all live in hope...oh and 2 Mackems agreeing with me in one day ... Has world peace broken out!!!

Have to say for the first time in years I cant wait for the new season to start. While relegation is always painful Im not sure a single person I have met either SAFC or Mags has said that they missed the Premiership. Most of my Mag mates (sorry) said that their Championship win was most they had enjoyed watching them in years. Ours obviously different as we were even worse in the Championship than the Prem.

Hate that feeling of going into a new season knowing you will get the same old shit as you get battered most weeks then hopefully grind out enough draws and the odd win to stay up. The Premier league is just a borefest now imho. Same teams competing in the top 7 year in year out with the rest just making up the numbers and desperately hoping they are not one of the 3 to go down.....FFS the last time a team bucked the trend and broke into the closed shop that is the top 4 they made a bloody Hollywood movie out of it.

Top and bottom is fans want to see their team competing and winning, hopefully playing great football in a stadium that is absolutely bouncing. How often does any team outside the top 7 get that in the Premier league....The money in the Prem is killing English football imho.

Speaking without black and white glasses on and accepting the glaringly obvious helps.

Like I said, you’re in the minority of ‘normal mags’ on this forum.
