England v Pakistan 2nd Test, Headingley

His crack is all the more bizarre in that 1. He's a Lancs fan, 2. He's generally positive about all things England, even when we're shite. Can only assume Buttler dropped a six on his tartan flask
Perhaps he's a lancs suppoter that doesn't want their players being "taken" by "Team England". Loads of our lot are like that (not me I hasten to add). So much so that they refuse to support our county's Test match.

Two things, seeing as you've asked....

1) I'm not a Lancs "fan".
2) I've been pushing for Liam Livingstone's inclusion for over a year.

Having a left arm seamer is an asset but at 5'9" he could struggle on overseas wickets.

Yeah, could play a part in English wickets but maybe not abroad until he’s a front line batsman

We play half our cricket at home, more probably, so it’s not a big issue, need to get away from the idea plays have to play in all conditions

He was absolutely out of his depth in the 20/20 games, stage fright

Will get a chance at some point.

What people feel to realise imo, is that any fucker can look at averages and stats and pick a team that would be easy, it's the same as anyone picking the England football forwards for a World Cup and just picking the top 4 goal scorers in the premier league that year.

It's about looking at players who have that something about them, that shows they can handle the pressure of international sport, anyone who has watched Buttler over the 5 or 6 years, it's blinding obvious that he has that and more.

He is far from just a slogger he plays fanastic paced innings depending on the situation and is calmness personified.

I’ll try and find it but there was some stat on commentary about how he’s been dismissed like twice in 140 defensive shots or someit. It was said to prove that he has a better defensive technique or record at least than anyone in the team

Well, hands up but I was against including Buttler. He's done well and proved he can do a job.

But that's not the only thing I was against.

Bairstow playing at 5 and having the gloves removed.
Root playing at 3. ………………..being the two others.

Fair play to you for your admission, pity more don’t do likewise, might earn them a bit of respect.

Personally I’m happy with Root at 3, I wouldn’t be taking the gloves off Bairstow though, as much as I’d like Buttler in the side as a destructive keeper/batsman. Bairstow has done nothing wrong and would need a major drop off in form for me to consider it.

Could you be any more patronising?

I’ve said he has done well, but it’s two tests

Much better. No Test cricket for 2 months now.

That’s absolutely shite.

I don't know if you listen to Jon Norman when he is on talksport mate, he was going off on one on TalkSPORT 2 this morning saying that the narrative of this test match series hasn't finished in order to have 5 meaningless ODI matches against Australia and he came up with a decent point. When he was in America there was a Baseball game on t.v. in the bar he was in and no-one was giving it any attention. He thinks that is the way British sport will end up, just meaningless games in order to make the most money possible, must admit I am sick of England playing Australia every year like.

It always confuses me why one day matches are class as meaningless where test matches are the be all and end all.

The World Cup is next year ( in this country) and we have probably the best chance of winning it in my lifetime and I am 46, we have a cracking side, therefore I find these matches anything but meaningless and important to give us the best chance in a massive tournament our country has yet to win!

And it could certainly be argued playing Australia is more meaning than playing Pakistan.

Of course I agree this should have been a 3 match test series, however the matches against Australia are not meaningless.

The only problem been the Aussies are missing their best players so could have done with a bigger test, however when the matches were scheduled they were not to know what would have gone on in South Africa.

Still laughing about this, unreal.

Totally agree mate, he makes a very valid point.
