Stuart Broad's Batting

He's a rabbit now unfortunately. England currently operating with two number elevens.

Average before his broken nose - 23
Average since - 13
Was never as good as we hoped he would be (hence the 23 average) but that blow from Aaron has finished him as a batter. Should bat no higher than 10

I think broad needs to develop a method of the block and go for some more occupation of the crease

Especially when we have a series of blasters from 6 to 8 in the order.

Play for them, just bat time and runs will follow

Broad though will become one of only six players in test history to make over 3000 runs and take 400 plus wickets

Just found out those who used to call him Chris were actually correct as it's his second name

His father though known as Chris, that also was his second name as his first name is Brian

There you go

Difficult though, what do you do about it at this stage?
Bat time as I said. Play for the likes of bairstow, stokes, buttler who he may bat with.

Those lads will make up the shortfall given time at the crease

It’s just easier said than done when so vulnerable to a full straight ball
Thats why I said he needs to develop a method with the coaching staff, to bat time.

It can be done, it's a matter of will to do.

As I said only the sixth player in the history of test cricket to achieve what broad has.

As someone who suffered a similar blow, I can confirm the psychological impact is hard to get past
I once had a music speaker, fall from the top corner of a room, onto the top of my nugget, whilst I was reading a copy of Roy of the Rovers below it

I know, it explains a lot

He middled that hook to be fair, not a top edge but obviously he didn't get enough on it or keep it down. I think his batting has improved greatly since the days straight after the incident.

Aye, it doesn't half spook you, getting a blow to the head. You then think every ball is likely to do the same. Takes a while to get over it and if you don't bat very often, like Broad, it could be some time before things are back to normal.

He needs to get on his front foot and learn to duck for anything short. Being a bit selfless when there's a recognised batsmen with you is also something he needs to learn

Remember the days of Angus Fraeser at 8

Mind the early Durham teams were jus as bad, no bowlers could bat, no batters could bowl. John Wood or Melvyn Betts regularlly in at 8.
Was it back in 2000 where we had 4 no.11s in the England team? Mullally,, Giddins,Tufnell and hoggard iirc

Shocking that. Jimmy Anderson would have been called a bowling allrounder in that area our bowlers were that bad.

Recall Goughie being similar to Broad, good talent with the bat early in his career then shite for the main part.

Saying that the Windies always had bowlers who were very poor with the bat but that wasnt a priority in that era

To be fair, Goughie was never a batsman. Cork and young Hollioake had more of a chance with the bat. Goughie was a swinger at best.
We've been spoiled by having the likes of Ali and Woakes at 8 & 9 the last few years. If the top 7 can't get 350+ then your problems aren't with the bowlers
