She was excellent wasn’t she? She was from Oz I think, really knowledgable and very goodNot sure of her name but there was a lass on that charity match the other night, who imo was excellent.
Not Isha but someone else, I think from Australia or New Zealand
A lot seem to forget that most have actually played the game at the highest level as well. You may not enjoy watching women's cricket but it's the same game, laws etc. And don't give me "oh they should stick to women's cricket then". Blokes commentate on the women's game and no one bats an eyelid.
what level did John Motson and guy Mowbray play at?The problem is it's their highest level but it isn't a very high level.
I've often said about women's football that getting a woman international to comment on the men's game is like inviting a decent non league player along to the studio. They might know about the nuts and bolts of the game, as do I but they simply have no level of insight into the upper level of the men's sport.
The level of the men's game is light years away from the women's in terms of longevity of the professional sport and participator numbers.

there was an asian lass on the cricket yesterday (very very bonny girl) who was great imo and spoke a lot of sense. Rather listen to her than Tufnell.See my edit.

totally agree with the tokenism thing. Should we just let women commentate on womens cricket as they will understand the nuances of that better or is that being sexist?Well Tuffers is an acquired taste. He only got on the commentary gig after being in the jungle so it was just a popularist thing.
Hopefully over the years the cream of the better ladies will rise to the top and we can dispense with the poor ones who let's face it are only there through tokenism.
The game would be literally no worse off if they weren’t there. It’s purely a case of doing something to tick a box!
Very few of the TMS lot played to the highest level. Blowers played 17 FC matches for Cambridge Uni, Aggers played a handful of tests, 3 tests for Ed Smith, CMJ played 1one 2nd XI game, Jonners never played the game, Dan Norcross the same, Daggers a handful of FC games. Yes, you have Vaughan, Swann, Boycs of course, but being a successful and interesting commentator or summariser for TMS does not require previous experience of playing test cricketThe problem is it's their highest level but it isn't a very high level.

Some commentators are different. A few have never played the sport to a high level, like Blowers etc. Then it's just a question of taste really.
Playing at highest level helps but shouldn’t be a prerequisite IMO. What likes of Blowers and Johnson brought was a certain charm and vocabulary as well as a little bit of wit. Women have many fine attributes but wit and ability to be funny just aren’t among them for me.Oh dear

In general, or just when commentating on cricket?Women have many fine attributes but wit and ability to be funny just aren’t among them for me.
In general which is why I just don’t see how they bring anything to the table. In general, or just when commentating on cricket?
Your exclusive views sum up everything that has been snobbish and exclusive about cricket over the years
