Racist Roseanne

:cool: I love Stewart Lee too.

Piffle. Loads of great American comedy shows have been made recently...

Brooklyn Nine Nine
It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia
The League
Community
Better Off Ted
Wonderfalls
Archer
Workaholics
Bored To Death
Parks And Recreation
Psych
Arrested Development
How I Met Your Mother
Scrubs
Family Guy
South Park
Eastbound And Down

...to name a few.

Haven't seen most of em' but cartoon comedy yes. Forgot to say I love south park and family guy.

Someone needs to remove her ability to communicate.

That's a pretty empty statement as @fyl2u illustrated
He forgot The Big Bang Theory too which is also geeky and intelligent
I can't stand shows like the big bang theory, it's a joke a minute but the jokes themselves are rarely good. IMO

You should start at the top of my list and work your way through them, then. If you think all US comedy is bland mindless crap then you've been watching the wrong shows. ;)

For me, US comedies beat the crap out of UK comedies in general.

Yeah, I left BBT off my list deliberately. I have watched it ALL but it doesn't cut it with the very best examples of US comedy for me.

It's just taste mate. I love some american standups, I used to listen to american radio shows a lot. But the comedy for me tends to be a bit bland and always going for the obvious joke.
My little sister can sit and watch those shows like the big bang theory all day and proper laugh her head off. For me it's just not that funny.

Fair enough, I didn't realise it wasn't on the list.

Curb, Silicon Valley and Veep too.

With the exception of The IT Crowd and Peep Show I'd put US comedy way on top over the last dozen years.

Veep is classed as American for obvious reasons but it is created (well up until either the 5th or 6th season) solely by British writers so it it is a fair bit different to most other stuff. Probably the smartest comedy of recent times other than maybe Arrested Development or Broad City.

Take your point on Armando Iannucci and it is heavily based on The Thick of It but it still had a very talented US cast attached to it so it’s probably best to call it a US/UK hybrid.

Yeah I'd definitely agree with that. The mix is probably why it's the most consistent comedy TV show in ages. As much as I enjoyed The Thick of It, it's not a patch on Veep.
