Surely we call up a batsmen if Stokes is injured? Are we really going to go with Buttler at 6, Woakes 7 and Bess at 8?

Similar bowling mind he's getting better he's only 19 they might just got woakes in.

Shouldn't drop our second best bowler

He wasn't our second best bowler at Lords. On a pitch that should've suited him, he bowled far too short and completely nullified the pitch. He hates being driven, so will continuously bowl back of a length, bang it in stuff, so he can't be driven.

But he generally is

Averages 27 seems to be getting better though and his bowling is good

Previously yes, I think he's way past his best. Personally I think he's on the way down and I worry that he's got too much say in the dressing room.

Fact is, we were outbowled in English conditions by Pakistan and for me, he was the main culprit. It's too comfortable him, he can pretty much do what he wants without fear of being dropped - so personally I'd drop him. Freshen things up. Send a message to the whole squad that nobody is safe. Maybe then we'd see more fight and character. Instead of just going through the motions as we slip to ANOTHER annihilation.

And bring in who woakes?

Woakes is a very solid player and would be a replacement ahead of Curran.
Better bowler, more experience and probably better with the bat.
I would have hoped they’d have picked, in the original squad, another batter to allow Bess to drop out at Headingley

I'm not sure where Woakes is fitness-wise. He missed a few matches at the start of the season which you'd have thought he would be playing and as far as I can see he's only bowled about 9 overs in the last one dayer. Wondering if he's ready for 5 days atm.

Fair enough. I’d assumed he was fit, but there is a difference between being fit and match fit, and the ability to bowl 15-20 overs in a day, if need be
